William “Billy” Andrew Weatherford

Wrens, GA  –              William “Billy” Andrew Weatherford, 80, entered into his eternal rest early Thursday morning, December 17, 2020 at the Downton Division of the Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center in Augusta. Graveside services with military honors to celebrate his life will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday afternoon, December 22, 2020 at the Ways Baptist Church Cemetery with the Reverend Russell Davis officiating.  The family will receive friends at his daughter’s residence in Wrens.

Because of the family’s concern for public health and safety during this COVID-19 pandemic, the family requests that social distancing and other safety precautions be followed.  The wearing of face masks is strongly encouraged.

Born to the late Rebie Godowns Weatherford and the late Milledge Robert Weatherford, Billy grew up in Blythe and attended Hephzibah High School until his family moved to Wrens in his Junior year. He was a true athlete—he played both football and baseball for the Wrens Cardinals, and received scholarship offers from Auburn and other colleges. After graduating from Wrens High School, he declined these offers in order to join the Army, where he served as a Military Police. After his honorable discharge, Billy moved to Texas working his way up in the oil industry to become the youngest toolsman in the country. His career in the oil industry provided him the opportunity to travel. During his time in Iran, he met and married the most beautiful woman he had ever seen, Leada Youseff Weatherford.  They travelled and lived all over the world—Africa, Saudia Arabia, etc. Life was good until he suffered injuries sustained in a drilling accident, which precipitated his moving his family to Wrens in 1973.  Billy then left to live in Texas in 1978, returning to Wrens twenty years later. He bought a place in the Stellaville community and worked for Tucker Trucking until his retirement.  Billy greatest passion and pastime was fishing—he lived to fish.  Having a BIG personality, he made friends easily everywhere he went. He had a generous, giving personality—it was stated that “he would give anyone the shirt off his back”. Through the years, Billy suffered through many of life's trials, both physical and mental; but, now having a new, pain-free body, he is experiencing his eternal home in Heaven where the fish is plentiful and always bite.

Billy is also preceded in death by his siblings, Dorothy Hayes and Robert “Bobbie” Weatherford. Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter, Michelle Weatherford-Usry (Jason); his granddaughter, Mia Grace Usry; sister, Elizabeth Weatherford; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The family expresses their heartfelt thanks to the nurses and staff at Keysville Nursing Home & Rehabilitation Center for their loving, compassionate and professional care.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorial gifts be made to Keysville Nursing Home & Rehabilitation Center, 1005 GA Hwy 88, Keysville GA 30816.
