William “Billy” Euel Sheppard, Jr.

Avera, GA  –               William “Billy” Euel Sheppard, Jr. 68, entered into his eternal rest Tuesday morning, April 14, 2020 at his residence. Because of the current ordinances regarding COVID-19 and the family’s respect and concern for public health and safety, the family has chosen to postpone celebration of life services until the social distancing and gathering mandates have been lifted.  The services to be held in the James Funeral Home Chapel with be scheduled for a later date.  Friends may visit with the family at the funeral home after the services.

The youngest of two sons born to the late Margy Swint Sheppard Clark and the late William Euel Sheppard Sr., Billy grew up in Avera.  As a young boy, he accepted Jesus as his Savior, being baptized into the fellowship of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.  After the passing of his father, the family moved to Augusta in 1966.  A graduate of Richmond Academy, he went on to obtain his Bachelor’s Degree in Business from Augusta College. Billy co-owned and operated a car rental enterprise for 10 years, after which he operated MATCO, a local travelling tool truck, from which he retiring in 2008.  He was also a skilled carpenter which was his second job and hobby. In September 2019, Billy moved back into the home place in Avera.  His pride was his vegetable garden and his flowers.  A great provider for his family, he had a great work ethic and was resourceful, strong-willed, fiercely independent, and self-reliant, as well as being a devoted father and loyal friend. Billy was happiest and most content when spending time with his family—his grandchildren especially brought him great joy. Nothing can fill the void of his death, but his memories will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.

Those left to cherish his memories include his children, Haley Culver (Wyatt) and Wes Sheppard; a brother, Gary Sheppard; two grandchildren, Elly Culver and Emmett Culver; cousins, and many friends.

The family wishes to express their gratitude for the kindnesses evidenced I thought, deed and prayer.
