William Anderson Chalker

Gibson, GA  –             William Anderson “A.C.” Chalker, 80, loving husband to Tracy Walden Chalker and the late Barbara Frost Chalker, entered into his eternal rest Saturday morning, October 2, 2021 at his residence. The family will hold private services to celebrate his life.

One of two children born to the late Alma Anderson Chalker and the late William Clinton Chalker, Andy, known by family, friends and the community as A.C., grew up in Gibson, graduating from Glascock County School in 1959.  He then attended Berry College where earned a Bachelors degree in Biology. A proud American, A.C. then joined the Air Force, serving our country as a Pilot Mechanic Specialist. He married Barbara in 1965 and lived in Puerto Rico until his military tour ended, making Gibson their permanent home in 1972. He earned his Masters of Education from Augusta College and taught the 10th, 11th and 12th grade biology classes. AC then earned his Doctorate Education Specialist degree from Georgia Southern University, after which he was the Principal and then as Superintendent for Glascock County Board of Education.  After 35 years of service in the education system for Glascock County, he left to serve ten years in the Columbia County Board of Education as the Assistant Superintendent and Tribunal Judge.  He was a member and past president of the Glascock County Masonic Lodge. Finally retiring in 1999, A.C. and Barbara were able to travel—taking cruises, going to Hawaii and Alaska, and buying an RV in which they visited every state with the exception of North Dakota.  After suffering the loss of Barbara, he married Tracy in 2021.  They, too, enjoyed traveling and going on cruises together.  A.C. loved spending time with his family and “manicuring” his yard. His favorite pastime was his John Deere tractor. Cutting his grass and riding that John Deere provided him much needed time to quiet the world and relax. He did enjoy hunting in his younger years and he liked to watch golf and basketball on TV. A craftsman, AC loved to “piddle” and fix things. Being mechanically inclined, he liked to take things apart to see how they worked and put them back together again.  Known for his quick-wit and sharp sense of humor, he made friends easily. Even though was considered to be out-going, he had a private, introspective side. After losing his daughter, Amy, he was a mentor to other parents who suffered the loss of a child. A family man, he has been described as being loving, kind, fair-minded, and self-less. Whatever you knew him as—husband, daddy, granddad, brother, friend, teacher—or whether it was A.C., Andy, or Mr. Chalker—this icon of the community will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of his presence in their lives.

AC is also preceded in death by his daughter, Amy Michelle Chalker. Others left to cherish his memories include his loving daughter, Anna Elizabeth Norris (Ken); six grandchildren, Ashton Amy Tiner, Abbigayle Elizabeth Tiner, Christopher Anderson Tiner, Gracey Jolene Norris, Bryer Patrick Norris, and Andrew Jameson Joiner; sister, Mahala Anderson; nieces, Rochelle Sullivan; in-laws, other extended family, and friends.

In lieu of flowers or other gifts, the family would like memorial contributions to be made to Glascock County Cancer Society, 412 Logue Avenue, Gibson GA 30810, in memory of Amy Michelle Chalker and Crystal Faye Clark.
