Wanda Sue Whited Rabun

Matthews, GA  –         Wanda Sue Whited Rabun, 66, loving wife of 52 years to Timmie Gerald Rabun, entered into her eternal rest Sunday morning, May 31, 2020 at Augusta University Medical Center. Funeral services to celebrate her life will be held in the James Funeral Home Chapel at 3:00 P.M. Wednesday afternoon, June 3, 2020, with the Reverend Faye Burgamy officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Moriah Church Cemetery.

Because of the family’s concern for public health and safety during this COVID-19 pandemic, the family requests that social distancing and other safety precautions be followed.  (Face masks are encouraged to be worn.)

Born in Louisville to the late Dorothy “Gladys” Stewart Whited and the late Thomas E. Whited, Wanda was a lifelong resident of the Matthews area. She quit school after the 8th grade when she met the love of her life and knew this was a “forever” love. Marrying in September 1968, they settled down and started their family. Wanda worked at various jobs—in the deli at the Jet and the IGA, Calvin James BBQ, and in the Gibson, Louisville and Thomson nursing homes—but her main focus was being a homemaker for her family. She loved to fish—catch fish, rather, because she did not like to clean them nor eat them. Camping was another great time she enjoyed spending with her family and friends, and she like just riding around. Being very active, she was always busy doing something. A cat person, Wanda was crazy about her feline friends.  She has been described as being “a spit-fire”, who was very straight forward.  Over the years she has had many health issues, including the necessity of removing both legs. Through all of these physical problems, Wanda never complained and maintained a great sense of humor—she was always joking around. A devoted wife and mother, Wanda loved her family unconditionally, and was especially close to her Mama, granddaughter and great granddaughter, who stole her heart.  Her spirit lives on in those who had the privilege of knowing her.

Wanda was also preceded in death by her sister, Paula Jean Whited. Other survivors include her son, Stacy Rabun (Leigh); grandchildren, Amanda Rabun and Steven Rabun; great granddaughter, Ansley Rabun; two sisters, Janice Reese (Dennis) and Brenda Edge (Lee); nephews, nieces, other extended family and friends.

Pallbearers will be Tony Arrington, Dean Maruca, Nicholas Stewart, Christian Williams, Ricky Williams and Kevin Woods.

The family will receive friends at James Funeral Home prior to the services from 1:00 – 3:00 P.M. Wednesday afternoon, June 3, 2020.
