Tracie Lynn McGahee Jones

Avera, GA –                Tracie Lynn McGahee Jones, 58, loving wife of 26 years to the late Vincent Todd Jones, peacefully entered into her eternal rest Friday evening, January 14, 2022 at Augusta University Medical Center.  Services to celebrate her life will be held in the James Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday afternoon, January 19, 2022 with  Reverend Mike Collins officiating.  Interment will follow in the Waldens United Methodist Church Cemetery in Avera.

Because of the family’s respect and concern for public health and safety during this COVID-19 pandemic, the family requests that social distancing and other safety precautions be followed.  The wearing of face masks is strongly encouraged during any gathering.

Tracie grew up in Wrens and was a 1981 graduate of Glascock Consolidated High School.  A hard worker, she began her work career with HealthTex, then transitioned to Apple Homes before working 24 years at Rhodes-Murphy in Wadley, and leaving that position to in 2018 to work as an Appraiser for the Jefferson County Tax Assessors Office. Tracie married the love of her life in 1991 and was a working mom. She took on the role of sole bread-winner and main care-giver when her husband became too ill to work.  When not working or caring for her family, Tracie loved to work in her yards, planting trees, shrubs and flowers—this time proved cathartic and soothed her soul. She also looked forward to the family’s annual vacation in the mountains.  Tracie was one to help anyone in need in anyway she could and provided great advice and help in completing various government forms.  She has been described as being fun-loving, witty and always being happy.  As a young girl, Tracie accepted God’s free gift of salvation through his son, Jesus, and joined the fellowship of Waldens United Methodist Church.  She could be found reading her Bible and, being a prayer warrior, praying for her family, friends, church family, community and country.  Her faith provided the strength to carry on even as she faced her own health issues. She had an absolute, unwavering love for her family and was most content in their presence: her grandchildren, nieces and nephews provided her much joy and laughter.  Tracie’s loving spirit will live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her.

Tracie is also preceded in death by her son, Jacob Todd Jones; father, John Thomas “Tommy” McGahee; and brother, Jeffrey Thomas McGahee.  Those left to cherish her memories include her children, Kyle V. Jones (Breana), Jeremy R. Jones and Amanda Clark; parents, Patricia Gay Kitchens and Larry Kitchens; four grandchildren, Kyleigh Jones, Mikayla Clark, Shaun Clark and Allyanna Clark; three siblings, Cliff McGahee (Carli), Josh McGahee (Ana) and Tracy T. Kitchens (Renee); nieces, nephews, other extended family, church family and friends. Serving as pallbearers will be Jonathan Brassell, Jared Brooks, Pat Broxton, Stephen Hardin, Tracy Kitchens and Curt McGahee.

The family will receive friends at James Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00 P.M. Tuesday, January 18, 2022.
