Obituary

Sharon Burnett Freeman

Augusta, GA  –           Sharon Burnett Freeman, 62, loving wife of 40 years to the late John Willie Freeman Jr., entered into her eternal rest Tuesday morning, July 13, 2021 at her residence. Funeral services will be held in the James Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 P.M. Saturday afternoon, July 17, 2021 with General Jennings officiating.  Interment beside her husband will follow in the Wrens Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00-2:00 P.M. at James Funeral Home.

Born to the late Alfreda Hobbs Burnett and the late Clarence Burnett, Sharon grew up in Alamo. After graduating from Wheeler County High School, she attended Payne College where she met the love of her life, marrying in 1980.  She worked as a paraprofessional for the Richmond County Board of Education at Meadowbrook Elementary School for over 28 years.  Sharon was known as being a “straight shooter” and “matter-of-fact”.  She had a loving spirit and a great sense of humor.  Sharon’s greatest passion was being a homemaker—she loved to cook for her family and make their home a safe haven. Her greatest pleasure was spending time with her grandchildren.

Sharon was also preceded in death by brothers, Charles Burnett and Frederick Burnett.  Those left to cherish fond memories include her children, John W. Freeman III, LaToya Griffin (Aki), and Brian Freeman; eight grandchildren, Jailyn Freeman, Caylee Freeman, Briana Freeman, Brian Freeman Jr., Travelle Freeman, Bryson Freeman, Travon Freeman and Jahhon Griffin; siblings, Ulysses Burnett (Willa Mae) of Brunswick; Myron Burnett (Kathy) of Suwanee; Clarence Burnett (Sheila) of Albany, Alfreda Burnett-Pool (Derek) of Dublin CA; Joseph Burnett (Debra) of McRae, Leslie Burnett of McRae, Allison Burnett of Dublin; sister-in-law, Beverly Burnett of Alamo; nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.  Serving as pallbearers will be John Freeman, Brian Freeman, Aki Griffin, Joseph Burnett, Billie Atkins, Avonia Moss and Eric Bowen.

The family wishes to express their gratitude for the kindnesses evidenced in thought, deed and prayer.
