Ronald “Keith” Pittman

Wrens, GA  –              Ronald “Keith” Pittman, 69, loving husband of 49 years to Ponda Janet Reid Pittman, entered into his eternal rest Wednesday, July 29, 2020 at his residence.  Services to celebrate his life will be held in the James Funeral Home Chapel at 4:00 P.M. Saturday afternoon, August 1, 2020 with the Reverend Tom Anderson officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home after the services Saturday afternoon.

Because of the family’s concern for public health and safety during this COVID-19 pandemic, the family requests that social distancing and other safety precautions be followed.  The wearing of face masks is encouraged.

A native of Augusta, Keith was one of four children born to the late Natalie Dukes Pittman and the late Delmar Pittman. After graduating from the Academy of Richmond County in 1969, he began a career as a cabinet maker but being a gifted musician, singer and song writer led him in another direction. In addition to being a studio musician, he toured as a member of James Brown’s band.  He was a member of several bands—The Livin’ In, Sante Fe Train, The Bulletz, Kahuna, and more recently, Swing Shift. While with The Bulletz, the band recorded an album and played gigs across the Southeast.  Having married the love of his life in 1971 and started a family, he decided in the late 1970’s to stay home, pick up his career in the cabinet business and play locally. He worked for MCG and the GA Department of Agriculture where he retired. Keith loved woodworking as well as music and was always busy, even after retirement, doing one or the other.  After moving to the Wrens area in 2002 to be closer to family, Keith joined the fellowship of Waldens United Methodist Church in Avera. His first priority in life was his family and took his role as husband, father, son and brother very seriously. Being a grandfather was his greatest achievement and each of his nine grandchildren held a special place in his heart. He was honored to have played at his granddaughter’s wedding on the 25th of July, where love and happiness flowed even in the heat of summer. Having an out-going personality, Keith never met a stranger and loved meeting and getting to know people.  He had a tender heart and was very sensitive to others and their needs.  Keith’s passing has left a void that no one can fill, but the memories shared are priceless treasures that no one can steal.

Others left to cherish his memory include his four children, Michelle McNeely (Shaymus), Ryan Pittman (Stephanie), Dana Milhous (Rob) and Denise Butler (Perry); nine grandchildren, Savannah Yaun (Caleb), Cameron McNeely, Abigail McNeely, Rhett Pittman, Jackson Pittman, Luke Milhous, Madison Milhous, Chandler Butler and Tyler Butler; three siblings, Dale Seber (Jerry), Mark Pittman (Kathryn) and Danny Pittman (Maryanna); nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
