Robert Walton Hudson

Wrens, GA – Robert “Bob” Walton Hudson, 89, loving husband to the late Barbara “Bobbie” Hudson, entered into his eternal rest late Saturday evening, August 13, 2022 after a brief hospital stay in Augusta.  Services to celebrate his life will be held in the James Funeral Home Chapel at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, September 14, 2022 with Reverend Chad Watkins officiating.  A private interment will follow at Ebenezer ARP Church Cemetery.

One of three children born to the late Robert Fletcher Hudson, Jr and Aretta Gertrude Preston, Bob was b orn in Cherrydale, Virginia and passed while living in Wrens GA. In the years between those two events, Bob lived in Louisville KY, Paducah KY, Evansville IN, New Lenox IL, Spring and Jersey Village TX, in addition to the assignments he had during his service in the Air Force.

Bob graduated from Paintsville Public Schools culminating his high school football career by playing in the Kentucky High School All Star Bowl Game and earning Honorable Mention for the Kentucky All State Football Team.  He then attended and played football for the Augusta Military Academy and University of Kentucky before he enlisted in the US Air Force.

Bob was stationed in Charleston, South Carolina with the 456th Troop Carrier Division when he met Bobbie Duke.  Bob met Bobbie at the Charleston Hampton Park Baptist Church prior to his leaving for the Aelution Islands to continue his work as an Air Force C-119 mechanic.  Bob also played football and basketball for the base teams and kept up correspondence with Bobbie in his free time.  Once Bob completed his Air Force career, Bob and Bobbie were married in Hampton SC at the same church where years earlier they met. Once married, they gathered up their belongings to begin life together in Louisville KY, where Bob was attending the University of Louisville on a Football Scholarship while Bobbie worked at the Board of Education. While in college, Bob’s football career culminated by playing football in the Sun Bowl in El Paso TX.  After Bob graduated college, he received a letter from the Indianapolis Colts to play football, but he accepted a position with Texaco at which time Bobbie gave up her career to start a family. Their son Dean was born in Louisville KY with James being born five years later in Evansville IN. With Bob working at Texaco, there were numerous moves to different states for the Hudson family. In each state, Bobbie and Bob made lifelong friends.  After retirement Bob and Bobbie moved to Wrens to be near family and friends.

Bob is survived by his sisters, Joan (Jack) Boelens and Lois (Larry) Glass.  Other survivors include two sons, Robert Dean Hudson (Rachel) and James Duke Hudson (Jody); six grandchildren, Blake Hudson, Tanner Hudson (Cassie) and great granddaughter Elloise), Deaven Hudson, Kent Hudson —all of Illinois—Ryan Hudson and Kendall Hudson—both of Texas; many dear nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
