Robert “Bob” Lee Barrow

Stapleton, GA –          Robert “Bob” Lee Barrow, 74, loving husband of 50+ years to Deborah Gayle Thigpen Barrow, peacefully entered into his eternal rest Monday afternoon, September 5, 2022 at Select Specialty Hospital in Augusta. Services to celebrate his life will be held in the James Funeral Home Chapel at 11:00 A.M. Friday morning, September 9, 2022 with the Reverend Mason Davis officiating.  Interment with military honors will follow in the Mt. Horeb Baptist Church Cemetery.

One of five children born to the late Beulah Mae Irby Barrow and the late Lowrin Henry Barrow Sr., Bob was a lifelong resident of Jefferson County, living predominantly in the Stapleton area. After graduating from Wrens High School in 1967, he joined the Army and, immediately upon completion of basic training, was sent to Vietnam. A true patriot, Bob loved his country and was proud of his service.  This was evidenced by all his patriotic memorabilia—it was always red, white and blue for him.  Returning home, he met the love of his life, marrying her eleven days after her 18th birthday in 1971.  They made their home in Stapleton with him working at J. M. Huber Mining Company. Retiring as a lab technician after 30 years of service, Bob then worked another 17 years with Town & Country Gas.  He was a hard-worker and a great provider, but he still made time for his family. Bob will be remembered as a coach for the WPEH Dixie Youth baseball team and his impact on many young men. He and Deborah did enjoy traveling, having wonderful memories of their trips to Alaska and Hawaii, as well as nearby mountains in north Georgia, North Carolina and Tennessee. Bob had a quiet, unassuming demeanor with a dry wit.  He enjoyed the simple things in life, like riding around the neighborhood on his golf cart with his dog, Willie.  Having a special affinity for helping and caring for the elderly, he was always there for them when they needed him. Being a family man, Bob loved his family beyond words—the grands and greats stole his heart completely. His greatest joy came from attending all their ballgames—wherever they were is where he wanted to be.  It has been said that the grands and greats brought out the best side of Bob.  As a young boy, Bob accepted Jesus into his heart at Mt. Horeb Baptist Church where he retained his membership. In later years, he served his Lord and Savior at Wrens Baptist Church.  At the end of his journey, Bob was ready to go home—not to his earthly home in Stapleton but to his eternal Heavenly home where he has a new, pain-free body and can worship God forevermore.  His greatest desire and hope are to see each of his family and friends—those who have gone on before and those whose time has yet to come—in Heaven.

Bob was also preceded in death by his siblings, Judy Sheppard and Lowrin H. Barrow Jr.  Also left to cherish his memories include his children, Shane Barrow (Angela) and Brooke Newsome (Jeremy); seven grandchildren, Hunter Barrow, Blake Lamb, Lyn Barrow, Ayden Barrow, Kaleb Newsome (Leah), Kason Newsome, and Kalyn Newsome; three great grandchildren, Ana Barrow, Kolson Newsome and Kallan Newsome; two brothers, Edward “Buddy” Barrow (Mildred) and Wayne Barrow (Elaine); in-laws, Oralee Barrow, Marsha Searcy, Carol and Milt Scherotter, and Mike and Barbara Thigpen; nieces, nephews, other extended family, church family and friends. Serving as pallbearers will be Ayden Barrow, Hank Barrow, Hunter Barrow, Blake Lamb, Kaleb Newsome and Kason Newsome.

The family will receive friends at James Funeral Home from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. Thursday evening, September 8, 2022.
