Peter Edwin Cunningham, Jr.

Stapleton, GA  –         Peter "Pete" Edwin Cunningham, Jr., 59, husband of 27 years to Robin Rene Hadden Cunningham, entered into his eternal rest early Friday morning, February 28, 2020 at Doctors Hospital. Services to celebrate his life will be held in the James Funeral Home Chapel at 7:00 P.M. Monday evening, March 2, 2020 with the Reverends Ralph Kitchens and David Kitchens officiating.

Born to the Susan Aborn Cunningham and the late Peter Edwin Cunningham Sr. in New Jersey, Pete grew up and spent his teenage years in Vineyard Haven, MA. After graduating high school, he attended college and traveled a bit with Michigan being one of his favorite states. Moving to Georgia, he worked as a paramedic with University Ambulance Service, serving the surrounding counties until he had hip replacement. Pete then began his career as a truck driver, both local and long hauls until his health decline. He then obtained his insurance license and sold life insurance for United Insurance Company.  Pete loved music, especially rock—his favorite bands were the Eagles and Boston—as well as southern gospel and country. An animal lover, he had a special affinity for dogs and was most content surrounded by his canine buddies Chloe, Joe, Lucas, Max, Scarlet and Sophie. He had a love for lighthouses and learning their history; and being at the beach and near the ocean soothed his soul.  He shared his love for Braves baseball with his son Tristen. Pete loved his Lord and Savior and served Him as a member of Full Gospel Lighthouse Church. Because of his relationship with Jesus, he had a heart for street ministry and the homeless.  A talker, he never met a stranger and loved getting to know people. Having a dry sense of humor, many times he was the only one who got his jokes.  Most of all, Pete loved his family and was happiest when surrounded by his grandchildren.  A devoted husband, dedicated father, loyal friend, Pete will be remembered for his gentle spirit, warm smile, and generous heart.  Even though he is sorely missed, we are happy that he is not suffering any longer and has a new, pain-free, perfect body in Heaven where he is worshipping God and experiencing His glory.

Pete was also preceded in death by his granddaughter, Lilyanna Cunningham; and his sister, Sheri Gilpin Wright.  Other survivors include his children, Christopher Cunningham (Leslie), Brendon Cunningham, Tristen Cunningham (Gabby), Jamey Hadden, Brandie Wells (Jason) and Nick Thomas (Jessica); step-mother, Marsha Cunningham; siblings, Scott Cunningham, Mark Cunningham (Emily), and Jenny Watson (Eric); twelve grandchildren, Landon Cunningham, Leila Cunningham, Ivory Cunningham, Austin Cunningham, Gage Cunningham, Sarah Cunningham, Haven Mae Cunningham, Madison Hadden, Jacob Johnson, Caleb Johnson, Logan Wells and Nate Thomas; nieces, nephews, church family and friends.  Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Mike Gatheral, Keaton Holliday, Matthew Miguel, Marlin Scarborough, Richard Stavely and Kevin Woods.

The family will receive friends at James Funeral Home from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. prior to the services Monday evening, March 2, 2020.
