Ollie Ruth Coxwell McCullar

Stapleton, GA –          Ollie Ruth Coxwell Kitchens McCullar, 66, loving wife to the late Jesse Wayne McCullar and companion to Tony R. Wheeler, entered into her eternal rest Monday afternoon, January 11, 2021 at Doctors Hospital in Augusta. Graveside services will be held in the Wrens Memorial Gardens at 2:00 P.M. Saturday afternoon, January 16, 2021 with Reverend Ronnie Shelton officiating.

Because of the family’s respect and concern for public health and safety during this COVID-19 pandemic, the family requests that social distancing and other safety precautions be followed.  The wearing of face masks is strongly encouraged during any gathering.

Youngest of the three children of the late Mildred Dean Shelton Coxwell and the late Roy Lee Coxwell, Ollie was born and grew up in Glascock County. In 1972 during her senior year at Glascock County High School, Ollie fell in love and quit school to get married. The couple moved to Stapleton and started their family. After divorcing and experiencing several failed relationships, she met the love of her life, Jesse, marrying him in 1995. They had 15 years of wedded bliss until his passing in 2009. She then renewed a long-time friendship that turned into love.  Ollie was not one to sit idle—she had to be working or doing something. She worked at Stapleton Garment until their closing, then at Thomson Company before going to work at Glit Inc. where she retired after 35 years of service as the Cutting and Packing Supervisor. She had an adventurous streak and liked trying new things and experiences. Ollie really liked to go shopping, especially with her sister who was her best friend.  Her favorite place to be was the beach--she found the beach calming and it gave her much solace and comfort, plus there was always someone to meet and talk to. A people-person, she never met a stranger and loved meeting new people.  Having a BIG, infectious personality and great sense of humor, Ollie has been described as “being the life of the party and having a smile that could light up the county”.  Ollie accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior and attended various local churches. Her family was her life and she loved them unconditionally—she was happiest in their presence.  Ollie kept her faith, a positive outlook and a smile no matter what was going on in her life.  She is now in her eternal home with her beloved Jesse.

Ollie was also preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Detroit Amerson. Others left to cherish her memories include her son, Tracy T. Kitchens (Renee); two granddaughters, Breana Kitchens and Amber P. Kitchens; sister, Gloria D. Amerson; brother, Roger L. Coxwell (Alice); nieces, nephews, other extended family, and many friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully asks that memorial contributions be made to American Cancer Society, 901 Greene Street, Augusta GA 30901.
