Lenora Giesbrecht Ensz

Louisville, GA  –        Surrounded by her family, Lenora Giesbrecht Ensz, 91, loving wife of 65 years to the late Leon Ensz, peacefully entered into her eternal rest Thursday, April 18, 2019 at Bethel Home in Montezuma KS. Funeral services will be held in the Harmony Springs Mennonite Church at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday morning, April 23, 2019. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Born to the late John and Ida Unruh Giesbrecht, Lenora spent most of her childhood around Montezuma, other than a few years in Stonington CO. During those years, she received her elementary education in the local country schools. Going through the depression years were difficult, but she enjoyed a happy childhood with her ten siblings.  On October 13, 1940, at the age of 13, she gave her heart to Jesus and was baptized into the Church of God in Christ Mennonite by Minister Harry Wenger.  Even though she struggled at times, she faithfully kept her vows to God and the Church, and cheerfully lived her Christian life to the very end.

On June 6, 1948, she married and was blessed with 65 years together. They began their new home in the Inman KS area. Two sons and four daughters made Lenora’s life complete. Their second child, Carol, filled a special place in the home and Lenora faithfully care for her for 18 years, until being placed in a care home.  In 1956, they moved to Georgia to operate a dairy farm. Lenora was always there to support her husband in whatever he was involved in, whether it was dairy farming or small engine repair.  She was an inspiring example to all her children, praying often for her family.

Lenora’s hands were always busy for others. She loved having Sunday dinner company and cooking for her family.  She will be fondly remembered for her delicious pies and zwieback. She loved working in her garden and flowers and especially enjoyed picking vegetables and strawberries. She was often heard signing as she worked.

Lenora’s final years were spent in Bethel Home, where she loved and was loved by all. The family appreciates the tender care shown to her during her time there.

Lenora is also preceded in death by her daughter, Carol; grandson, Tristan; three brothers, Vernon, Johnny and Frank; and five sisters, Myrtle, Frances, Susie Lizzie and Dorothy. Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Sharon Heibert of Murray KY, Clark Hiebert of Louisville, Gene Ensz (Venora) of Del Norte CO, Gerald Ensz (Marilyn) of Uniontown AL; Barb Holdeman (Bob) of Avera, and Judy Schmidt (Don) of Stapleton;18 grandchildren; 50 great grandchildren; two sisters, Evelyn Unruh (Bob) and MaryAnn Dirks (Calvin); four sisters-in-law, Opel Giesbrecht, Verda Giesbrecht, Juanita Ensz and Edith Ensz; and a host of family and friends.
