Kerry Leigh DeWitt Hadden

Avera, GA  –               Kerry Leigh DeWitt Hadden, 42, loving wife of 20 years to Eric Jerry Hadden, unexpectedly entered into her eternal rest Tuesday afternoon, May 26, 2020 in Millen.  Services to celebrate her life will be held at 6:00 P.M. Tuesday evening, June 2, 2020 in the James Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Bohling officiating.  A private interment will be held at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends prior to the services from 4:00 – 6:00 P.M. Tuesday evening, June 2nd.

Because of the family’s concern for public health and safety during this COVID-19 pandemic, the family requests that social distancing and other safety precautions be followed.

Kerry, one of three children born to Brenda Proctor DeWitt and Joseph “Lem” Lemuel DeWitt III, grew up in Dearing. As a youngster, she was very adventuresome and a bit of a daredevil, enjoying skiing and tubing at the lake and driving motorcycles—just having fun! Soon after graduating from Thomson High School in 1996, she married and started her family, having four children in almost as many years. Being a homemaker, she put her children’s needs before her own and tried to make their home a comfortable safe-haven. After the kids were in school, she obtained her CDL and drove a school bus for Jefferson County and was very “hand-on” in her children’s activities—and their friends’ as well. Kerry loved to cook and bake, work with her flowers and cross-stitch but her passion was crocheting. She loved all types of music, but the country genre was her favorite. Being outspoken and direct, you always knew exactly what she thought and where you stood with her. Being strong-willed and determined, she had a TOUGH exterior that housed a warm, caring, loving soul. A natural-born nurturer, Kerry loved taking care of others and helping people, often putting their needs before her own, which made her well-suited for her career in the medical field. Being very intelligent, she obtained her CMA degree from Oconee Fall Line Technical College, passing her boards on her first attempt. Certified as an EMT at Warren County, she then worked for Warren County EMS, then Gold Cross before going with Grady Health where she was both a dispatcher and EMT. Always wanting to learn and grow, she was in the process of getting a business degree.  Kerry’s life ended way too soon but her memory will be treasured and honored, and her light will continue to shine in the hearts of those she has left behind.

Kerry is preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Claude Proctor; and her paternal grandparents, Martha DeWitt Clayton and Joseph DeWitt, Jr. Other survivors include her four children, Katelyn McNair (Josh), Johnathan Phillips, Isaac Phillips and Jacob Hadden; two siblings, Michelle Miles (James) and Joe DeWitt (Sara); maternal grandmother, Beulah Proctor; nieces, nephews, and a multitude of friends.
