June Elsie Davis Hunley

Wrens, GA  –              June Elsie Davis Hunley, 88, loving wife of 69 years to the late Audrey Hunley, entered into her eternal rest Tuesday morning, November 10, 2020 at her daughter’s residence in Matthews. Funeral services to celebrate her life will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday morning, November 13, 2020 in the James Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Chad Watkins officiating.  Interment beside her beloved husband will follow in the Wrens Memorial Gardens.

Because of the family’s concern for public health and safety during this COVID-19 pandemic, the family requests that social distancing and other safety precautions be followed.  The wearing of face masks is strongly encouraged.

One of five born to the late Josephine Cliatt Davis and the late Leon Davis, June grew up in the Zebina area, graduating from Wrens High School in May, 1950.  She met the love of her life while he was stationed at Ft. Gordon in July, 1950, and wed 2 ½ months later. They moved to Dayton OH for job opportunities, returning to Wrens in 1952 at which time they started their family—three sons and then a daughter. June loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus, and served Him at Wrens United Methodist Church where she was a member since the late 1950’s. A homemaker, she sought to make their home a comfortable, safe haven where her family knew they were loved.  June was very active in her children’s school activities and supported all of their endeavors. She found great satisfaction being a Girl Scout leader for many years. She could be found reading, sewing, or working in her flower garden—she loved having a pretty yard and being outside.  A creature of habit, June liked to be on a schedule and did not like change. June was very friendly and kept a positive attitude—she chose to be happy even in difficult times. She will be remembered for her exuberant smile that brightened even the darkest room. A people person, she made everyone feel comfortable and cared for. She believed in family and was very close to her siblings, especially her sisters who were her best friends. Her love for her family was absolute and all-encompassing—her grandchildren filled her heart with joy. Nothing can take away the the void left by her passing, but knowing that she is now in her eternal home and cherishing the many memories she left, our hearts, even though broken, are at peace.

June is also preceded in death by her son, Scott Hunley; granddaughter, Heather Hunley; and siblings, Carolyn Herndon and Kenneth Davis. Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Rex Hunley, Jimmy Hunley and Karen Hunley Wheeler (Dennis); two siblings, Miriam Radcliff (Donald) and Vivian Holt (Dub); seven grandchildren, April Stapleton (Pete), Alisha Kitchens (Robert), Jacob Hunley, Ryan Hunley (Dana), Aron Hunley (Laura), John Russell and Ashlee Arrington (Brad); ten great grandchildren, Ashlyn Kitchens, Amber Kitchens, Russell Hunley, Olivia Hunley, Collin Hunley, Taylor Hunley, Jessica Hunley, Paris Russell, Sumer Arrington and Camlyn Arrington; nieces, nephews, extended family, church family and friends.  Serving as pallbearers will be Brad Arrington, Aron Hunley, Jacob Hunley, Ryan Hunley, Robert Kitchens, J. J. Russell and Joey Wheeler.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to Belinda, Nikki Taylor and Joy Hillman for their loving, compassionate care.

The family will receive friends at James Funeral Home from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. Thursday evening, November 12, 2020.
