John William Howell

Wrens, GA –               John William Howell, 39, was found Saturday afternoon, December 4, 2021, at his residence deceased from natural causes.  Private services to celebrate his life was held by his family.

Lovingly known as “Big John”, John was a 2003 graduate of Jefferson County High School. Before becoming disabled, he did body work on cars and trucks. He was a “tinkerer” and was fascinated on discovering how things worked—he would take things apart and put them back together.  He loved doing crafts and would make Christmas decorations and other trinkets from wire and spare parts.  Big John had a unique way of seeing things and making something beautiful out of what others saw as trash or scrap and was a true artisan. He also loved to fish and was content fishing all day long.  He was described as being “straight-up” and “straight forward”—you could count on him saying what he thought and always being true to himself. Big John had a big heart and loved his family, especially his one and only niece, above all else. Over the last ten years, he became house-bound and was not able to enjoy the things he loved doing; but even during his suffering, he was upbeat and positive—a joy to his family.

Big John was preceded in death by his father, Dewey Howell Jr.; his step-father, David “Wayne” Howell; and earlier this year, his mother, Emily Elaine McTier Howell.  Those left to cherish his memories include his brothers, Dewey “Jack” Howell III (Sabrina) and Chris Howell; and his niece who held his heart, Christina Howell.
