Ina “Annette” Dukes Usry

Gibson, GA –              Ina “Annette” Dukes Usry, 90, loving wife of the late Gail “G” Usry, peacefully entered into her eternal rest Thursday morning, January 13, 2022. Graveside services to celebrate her life will be held in the Magnolia Baptist Church Cemetery at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday morning, January 19, 2022 with Rev. Jason Owens officiating.

Because of the family’s respect and concern for public health and safety during this COVID-19 pandemic, the family requests that social distancing and other safety precautions be followed.  The wearing of face masks is strongly encouraged during any gathering.

One of ten born to the late Alma Wren Dukes and the late Dorsey A. Dukes, Annette grew up in the Wrens area.  After graduating from Wrens High School, she married G Usry and started her work career at Uniroyal in Thomson.  She worked there as a plant manager until its closing.  She then attended classes to become a nurse but joined the staff of Dr. Tracy Middlebrooks as the office manager, retiring with 25+ years of service after suffering a stroke. In 2010.  Annette accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior as a young girl, attending Mt. Horeb Baptist Church and Ways Baptist Church. As an adult, she attended Magnolia Baptist Church, Wrens Church of God and Gibson Church of God.  She grew up in a large close-knit family, where their faith manifested itself in singing gospel songs. She loved going to gospel sings with her brother, Glen, and their friends—she was teased about being a gospel sing groupie!!  Having an outgoing personality and being gregarious, Annette loved meeting new people and getting together with friends.  She was all about sharing and building long-lasting relationships.  Annette preferred being outside and was always ready to go with her family or friends to wherever they were going.  She was known to be a great cook and especially enjoyed the Dukes reunions at Ways Baptist Church.   Being strong-willed, very feisty, loving and generous, Annette was a loyal friend and was always fair-minded.  Family was her first and top priority. She had an absolute, unwavering, fierce love for each and every one of her family and was the most content and happy when surrounded by her loved ones.  Even though she is no longer here with us physically, her spirit lives on in the hearts of those she left behind.

Annette is also preceded in death by her daughter, Sandra G. Norton; and all of her siblings, Judson Dukes, Jimmy Dukes, Dora Bell, Glen Dukes, Natalie Pittman, Ruth Eastus, John Dukes, Randy Dukes and Jean Johnson. Those left to cherish her memories include her granddaughter, Laurie Kitchens (Dean); two great grandchildren, Mitchell Spell (Ashley) and Megan Walden (Stanley); five great-great grandchildren, Colten Spell, Savannah Spell, Skylar Walden, Maci Walden and Maddie Walden; nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends.
