George Thomas Wren Jr.
Wrens, GA – George Thomas Wren Jr., 75, loving husband of 42 years to Mary Brock Wren, entered into his eternal rest Saturday afternoon, August 21, 2021 at his residence. Funeral services will be held in the James Funeral Home Chapel at 3:00 P.M. Tuesday, August 24, 2021 with Chaplain Race Lariscy officiating. Interment will follow in the Wrens Memorial Cemetery.
Because of the family’s respect and concern for public health and safety during this COVID-19 pandemic, the family requests that social distancing and other safety precautions be followed. The wearing of face masks is strongly encouraged during any gathering.
The only son born to the late Jeanette Gunby Wren and the late George T. Wren Sr, George spent the first nine years of his life living in Wrens before the family moved to Augusta. After graduating from Butler High School in 1966, he joined the Air Force, serving until October 1970. He obtained the rank of Staff Sergeant and earned the Military Merit Medal. After returning home, he married the love of his life in 1979. George worked as an estimator for Bob Richards Chevrolet, leaving there to work for Pepsi Cola and then for Coca Cola where he was the Southeast Fleet Manager based in Charlotte. He travelled extensively in this position. He left this job in 2005 to start his own business, Wrens Diversified LLC d/b/a Wren Motor Co., in Wrens. Known to be a workaholic, he did enjoy watching NASCAR and football. He also had a passion for guns—collecting guns, going to gun shows, etc. George also liked his working on his computer and was considered by some as a computer geek. He loved cars and owned his dream car—a red Corvette. George had a great love for his canine buddies—he loved his dogs beyond words. He was very generous and compassionate, helping anyone in need. He was not a “put on”—he was exactly what you saw and you could like him or not: it was totally up to you. Being a proud, determined man, George was very independent. Above all else, he loved his family and worked hard to provide for them.
Others left to cherish his memories include his step son, Danny Simpson; two sisters, Barbara W. Thompson of Evans, and Deborah W. Saxon (Chris) of Harlem; an uncle, Robert G. Gunby Jr. (Barbara); several nieces, nephews and friends. Serving as pallbearers will be Scottie Thompson, Bryan Thompson, Richard Stults, Chris Saxon, Sterling Harris and Keaton Holliday.
The family will receive friends at James Funeral Home from 1:30 – 3:00 P.M. prior to the services Tuesday afternoon, August 24, 2021.
