Charles Edward Miller

Keysville, GA –          Charles Edward Miller, 82, loving husband of 50 years to the late Judy Ann Southerland Miller, passed away peacefully Monday afternoon, December 27, 2021, at Keysville Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center. Services to celebrate his life will be held in the James Funeral Home Chapel at 3:00 P.M. Sunday afternoon, January 2, 2022, with Rev. Jason Burton officiating. The family will receive friends after the service.

Because of the family’s respect and concern for public health and safety during this COVID-19 pandemic, the family requests that social distancing and other safety precautions be followed.  The wearing of face masks is strongly encouraged during this gathering.

Born in Athens AL, Charles was the second child of seven of the late Annie Mae Robinson Miller and the late Theo Miller.  He quit school after the 8th grade and left home, hitching and working his way across the US—from being a hunting guide in Michigan, to working in junk yards, being a tow truck driver, and other various jobs.  Loving to travel and loving cars/trucks, he decided to go into trucking, making long hauls all over the states. He drove for 40+ years, taking breaks from driving to work as a mechanic—he loved “piddling” and rebuilding engines—and as a night policeman in Gibson.  Charles met the love of his life, marrying her in 1971 and then moving to Keysville in 1977 in order to help take care of his mother.  In his younger years, he also enjoyed riding motorcycles, was very big in the CB Club and Jamboree (his handle was “Gun Smoke” since he was a Western fanatic), enjoyed shooting doves and hunting deer, as well as camping with his family. Charles loved music and even played bass in a band.  Teaching himself to play guitar, one of the best gifts he gave his family was a DVD recording of a special concert of him singing and playing guitar performed just for them—now a treasure worth more than money.  He never met a stranger and developed many friendships over the years. A great story-teller, he enthralled people with the stories of his extensive experiences and travels.  Charles has been described as being “good-hearted with a stubborn streak” and was considered a loyal friend. Above all else, he loved his family beyond words and would do anything for his kids and grandkids. This man of character will be greatly missed.

Charles was also preceded in death by his siblings, James Miller, Larry Miller and Margie Turner. Those left to cherish his memories include his children Monica L. Moore (David), , Charles Miller Jr. (Veronika), Wayne Miller, Bobby G. Miller,  Tim Griffin and Brad Griffin; grandchildren, Trinity Moore, Kyleigh Jones (Chris), Andrew Griffin, Melissa Miller, Christine Stanford, Ryan Stanford, Christina Miller, Theo “Bubba” Miller; siblings, Geraldine Haynes, Bill Miller (Sue) and Clarence Miller; nieces, nephews, other extended family, and friends.

The family expresses their heart-felt thanks to the Regency Hospice team and especially to the staff at Keysville Nursing Home & Rehabilitation Center for their loving, compassionate and professional care.
