Billy Kitchens

Stapleton, GA –          Billy Kitchens, 87, loving husband of 69+ years to Katherine Joan Kitchens, peacefully entered into his eternal rest late Thursday evening, February 10, 2022 at Augusta University Medical Center.  Services to celebrate his life will be held in the Stapleton Baptist Church at 2:00 P.M. Monday afternoon, February 14, 2022 with the reverends Josh Mosley and Mason Davis officiating.  Interment will follow in the Stapleton Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Because of the family’s respect and concern for public health and safety during this COVID-19 pandemic, the family requests that social distancing and other safety precautions be followed.  The wearing of face masks is strongly encouraged during any gathering.

A native of Gibson and the eldest of three children born to the late Blanche Usry Kitchens and the late Bill Kitchens, Billy had to grow up fast, quitting school in the 6th grade after his father died in order to help support his family. It was when he was working at Thomson Company that he saw the love of his life—it was love at first sight—marrying her in 1952 less than two weeks after his 18th birthday.  Billy then worked at Kingsley Mill before working at Knox Trailer Company for 20 years, and then retiring after 22 years of service with Thiele Kaolin Company.  He was one that always had to be busy doing something so in his “off time” he would hunt, fish, work in his vegetable garden, cut grass, rake leaves, or, his favorite pastime, woodworking. In his later years, he did enjoy watching westerns on TV.  Billy always enjoyed traveling, especially to the mountains, and seeing God’s beautiful handiwork. He has been described as being easy-going, a hard-worker, and one who never complained.  Billy accepted Jesus as his personal Lord and Savior, serving Him as a past member of Mt. Beulah Baptist Church and a member and Deacon of Stapleton Baptist Church.  A simple, humble man, he was always grateful to God for His many blessings and having lived a good life—one that included the love of his soul mate, his children, grandchildren, church family and friends.

Others left to cherish his memories include his children, Billie Ann Stewart (Charles), Danny Kitchens (Donna) and Stephanie Frost (Rodney); two younger siblings, Evelyn Sellers (Milton) and Larry Kitchens (Patricia); eight grandchildren, Troy Stewart, Hope Chalker (Keven), Chad Stewart (Carmen), Shawn Kitchens (Courtney), Stephen Kitchens (Kristin), Samantha Howard (Tony), Layne Frost and Faith Frost; nine great grandchildren, Bryar Stewart, Branson Stewart, Ansley Chalker, Landen Chalker, Callie Ann Stewart, William Kitchens, Katherine Kitchens, Henry Kitchens and Gabby Howard; nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends. Pallbearers will be his grandsons—Troy Stewart, Shawn Kitchens, Chad Stewart, Stephen Kitchens, Layne Frost and Keven Chalker.  Serving as honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons of Stapleton Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends at James Funeral Home from 4:00-6:00 P.M. Sunday afternoon, February 13, 2022.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Stapleton Baptist Church, 360 Harvey Street, Stapleton GA 30823.
