Austin “Corbin” Simons

Augusta, GA  –           Austin “Corbin” Simons, 83, loving husband to the late Agnes Weeks Clark Simons, entered into his eternal rest Thursday night, December 9, 2020.  Graveside services to celebrate his life will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday afternoon, December 12, 2020 in the Wrens Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Rick Nevard officiating.

Because of the family’s concern for public health and safety during this COVID-19 pandemic, the family requests that social distancing and other safety precautions be followed.  The wearing of face masks is strongly encouraged.

A native of Philadelphia PA, Corbin, one of two children born to the late Irma Mae Cook Simons and the late Davis Arthur Simons, grew up in New Jersey. Because his father was a Methodist minister, the family moved every five or so years.  After graduating from Atlantic City High School, he attended Union College in KY, graduating with an Associates degree in Business Administration.  A patriot, he then served our country in the Army. While stationed in Columbia SC, Corbin met the love of his life, marrying her after his stint in the Army. They then served as missionaries in Pakistan where they started their family.  Two years later, while on furlough, their second daughter was born, after which they decided to stay in the States. Corbin then worked as an accountant for the Richmond County Youth Detention Center for 20+ years.  A devoted husband and father, he took care of his wife, who suffered with brain tumors for 15 years, and his four daughters—this says a lot about his character and belief system.  He also took on additional jobs to help support his family—delivering newspapers and pizzas.  After leaving the YDC, he worked for many years as a delivery man for Martina’s Florist.  Corbin loved all sports and could be found in front of the TV intent on whatever game was on. An avid bowler, he was especially proud of his 298 game for which he received the coveted ring.  Having a laid-back personality, Corbin was always the calm voice of reason and maintained his positivity throughout all of life’s trials.  Accepting Jesus as his personal Lord and Savior gave him the certainty of the day, the hope of tomorrow, and the reassurance of eternity.

Those left to cherish his memory include his four daughters, Susan Webb (Glenn), Sara Brown, Stephanie Rooks and Stacey Hentges (Butch); a sister, Marjorie Simons; three grandchildren, Austin Webb, Justin Brown (Haily) and McKenzie Brown; and great granddaughter Brown who is “on the way”; and many friends.

The family wishes to express their gratitude for the kindnesses evidenced in thought, deed and prayer.
