Albert Franklin Padgett

Avera, GA –                Albert Franklin Padgett, 80, loving husband of 60 years to Rachel Sheppard Padgett, entered into his eternal rest early Wednesday morning, January 20, 2021 at his residence. Graveside services will be held in the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery at 2:00 P.M. Sunday afternoon, January 24, 2021 with Reverend Frank Thigpen officiating.

Because of the family’s respect and concern for public health and safety during this COVID-19 pandemic, the family requests that social distancing and other safety precautions be followed.  The wearing of face masks is strongly encouraged during any gathering.

One of two sons born to the late Estelle Moore Padgett and the late Zeke Padgett, Albert attended grade school in Avera and graduated from Wrens High School.  Having known and grown up with Rachel, their friendship blossomed into a romantic love committing themselves to each other in marriage in 1960.  Albert worked at a couple of jobs before devoting his time to farming.  At age 53, he also took on a job at Jefferson County Landfill, retiring as Supervisor after 20 years of service. A hard worker, his fulfillment came with being able to be outdoors working the land or managing the landfill. Albert enjoyed travelling—just getting in the car and marveling at God’s handiwork—and going to flea markets locally and those along the way on their adventures. Having an easy-going, laid-back personality, Albert loved meeting new people—a stranger was just a friend he had not yet met.  Albert enjoyed God’s grace through his acceptance of Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, serving Him as a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church since 1967.  He loved going to church, faithfully worshipping and singing praises as a member of the choir. Meeting the qualifications outlined in I Timothy 3:8-1 and Titus 1:7, he was ordained as a Deacon on July 18, 1982.  Because of Christ, he had a great love and concern for people. Devoted husband, loving father and doting grandfather, Albert was the epitome of a family man. His love for his family was unconditional and a constant in their lives. His grands and greats filled his heart with a joy beyond words.  Going to his eternal home in Heaven, the void left by Albert’s passing is great but his memories will forever be in the hearts of those he leaves behind.

Albert was also preceded in death by his brother, Lanier Padgett.  Others left to cherish his memories include his children, Timmy Padgett (Jennifer), John Padgett (Alison) and Renee Kitchens (Tracy); six grandchildren, Hailey Battle, Elizabeth Akers, Tanner Padgett, Travis Padgett, Breana Kitchens and Amber Kitchens; two great grandchildren, Archer Battle and Liam Akers; nieces, nephews, other extended family, church family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully asks that memorial contributions be made to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, PO Box 55, Avera GA 30803.
