Winston Lane Tompkins

Hephzibah, GA  –       While riding his bike on Farmers Bridge Road, Winston Lane Tompkins, 15, was the victim of a tragic accident Wednesday evening, May 25, 2016. Funeral services will be held in the James Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday afternoon, June 1, 2016, with the Reverend Randy Monk officiating. Interment will follow in the Keysville United Methodist Church Cemetery.

The son of Billy Jo Hillis Tompkins and Harry “Kin” Medford Tompkins Jr., Winston was born and lived all of his life in Burke County where he attended Burke County Alternative School. An animal-lover, he especially loved horses, and enjoyed being outdoors.  Winston loved people and never met a stranger—he loved to talk to others and could be found carrying on conversations with all age groups.  Having an honest, free-hearted, generous and enthusiastic nature, he cared more about others than himself and desired to make everybody laugh and feel good.  In his short time on earth, Winston was known to many and his memories will be treasured by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Winston is preceded in death by a brother, Mason Tompkins; maternal grandparents, Donna Hillis and Billy Watts; and paternal grandfather, Harry Tompkins. Other survivors include his paternal grandmother, Bobbie Tompkins, paternal great grandmother, Susie Culpepper; aunts and uncles, Kyle Tompkins (Meredith), Steve Watts (Christina), Greg Watts (Lisa), Don Watts (Norma), Peanut Watts (Dale), Randall Watts, Tony Watts (Penny), Brenda Watts (Alan) and Lisa Watts (Jodi); and a multitude of cousins and friends. Pallbearers will be Keith Agner, Lonnie Amerson, Tyler Coleman, Jason Morris, Tommy Silver, Trevor Silver, Jerry Watts and Steve Watts.

The family will receive friends from 11:30 A.M. until 2:00 P.M. prior to the services on Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at James Funeral Home.

Because of this tragic, unexpected loss, in lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial donations be made directly to James Funeral Home, P.O. Box 588, Wrens, GA  30833.

Young Life Cut Short

Do not judge a biography by its length,
Nor by the number of page s in it:
Judge it by the richness of its contents.
Sometimes those unfinished are
among the most poignant….
Do not judge a song by its duration
Nor by the number of its notes:
Judge it by the way it touches and lifts the soul.
Sometimes those unfinished are
Among the most beautiful….
And when something has enriched your life;
And when its melody lingers on in your heart;
Is it unfinished?
Or is it endless?
