William Joseph Van Dyke

Keysville, GA  – William Jospeh Van Dyke, 66, entered into rest Wednesday night, July 10, 2013, at his residence. Services will be held at Bayvale Baptist Church in Augusta on Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at 1:00PM with Rev. Charlie Deloach officiating.

Bill was born to the late Katherine Jordan and Robert Van Dyke in Newark, NJ.  He proudly served his country in the Army in Vietnam where he suffered several injuries. He worked at a water treatment plant in Florida where he lived for 25 years but moved to this area in 1994 in order to be closer to the Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center. When physically able, he enjoyed riding his Harley. Patriotic, kind, loyal, dedicated—these words cannot express the attributes and integrity he exuded. This hero will be greatly missed.

Bill was also preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Van Dyke. His survivors include his four sons, Jacob Van Dyke, William Van Dyke II, Zachary Van Dyke (Jennifer) and Shane Van Dyke (Sherri); six grandchildren, Vincent Van Dyke, Donnie Van Dyke, Zachary Van Dyke Jr., Addalynn Van Dyke, Samantha Van Dyke and Alayna Van Dyke; and many friends.

The family will receive friends at the church after the services.

He Is Gone
You can shed tears that he is gone,
Or you can smile because he lived.
You can close your eyes and pray that he will come back,
Or you can open your eyes and see all that he has left.

Your heart can be empty because you can't see him,
Or you can be full of the love that you shared.
You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday,
Or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday.

You can remember him and only that he is gone,
Or yu can cherish his memory and let it live on.
You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back,
Or you can do what he would want: smile, open your eyes, love and go on.
