William “Bill” Arthur Cooper, Jr., passed away on October 15, 2026, at the age of 60. Born on April 19, 1966, Bill was a lifelong resident of Jefferson County, a place he called home throughout his life and where he built deep roots through his work, his faith, and the people he loved.
A 1984 graduate of Louisville High School, Bill went on to build a life with his hands and his heart. After high school, he worked in construction with a contractor before eventually establishing his own construction company. He first built homes from the ground up and later turned his focus to remodeling and cabinetry, work that reflected his love of woodworking and the satisfaction he found in creating something lasting. He was known as an easygoing man with a great sense of humor, someone who liked to cut up and who truly appreciated the blessings of a simple life.
Bill was a believer and a member of Louisville Associated Reformed Presbyterian Church, where he served as a deacon. His faith was an important part of his life and was reflected in the way he cared for others and lived with quiet steadiness. Being community minded, he was a volunteer fireman with the Bartow Volunteer Fire Department. He could be found helping his friends work on their farms—he especially enjoyed driving the tractors and other farm equipment. Bill was happiest outdoors, whether fishing, hunting, or taking part in bird shoots. The mountains held a special place in his heart and remained his favorite place to visit, giving him a sense of wonder and peace.
Above all, Bill loved his family. He cherished being in their presence and found his greatest joy in the time they shared together. His grandchildren were especially dear to him. They filled his heart to overflowing, and he loved playing in the yard with them and getting their great big hugs.
Bill is survived by his son Chris Cooper and Chris’s wife, Allie, and by his adored grandchildren, Charis Cooper and Josiah Cooper. The love he shared with his family will remain a lasting gift, and his memory will continue to live on in the moments they spent together and the example he set through a life of faith, hard work, and devotion.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Jean Smith Cooper, and his father, William Arthur Cooper.
A private interment will be held at Parkers UMC Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to share in the memorial service to be held at 11:00AM Tuesday morning, October 20, 2026, with Rev. Bob Elliott officiating at the residence of Chris Cooper, 3476 GA Hwy 24 W, Bartow, Georgia 30413. A visitation and partaking of a meal will follow the funeral service.
Bill will be remembered for his steady spirit, his skilled hands, his humor, his love of the outdoors, and the deep love he gave so freely to his family and friends.
