Stephen Michael Mauney

Stephen Michael Mauney, 51, born February 4, 1975, peacefully transitioned into his Heavenly home Tuesday afternoon, July 14, 2026, at his residence. In these final moments, his hope became reality as he met his Savior face-to-face.

A cherished lifelong resident of Wrens, with only a brief time spent in Florida, Stephen’s deep roots and enduring presence left a profound impression on all who knew him. He was a 1993 graduate of Wrens High School. Stephen continued his educational journey at the University of Georgia and Augusta University, where he pursued studies in Biology, reflecting his passion for learning and the natural world.

Stephen will be remembered as a truly charismatic and personable individual. His career in cellular sales at AT&T and later Verizon was a perfect fit for his gifts, as he possessed the rare ability to connect with people from all walks of life. Very much a people-person and exceptionally charming, Stephen formed lasting friendships not only in Wrens but also across the country, wherever his travels took him. His generous and loving spirit shone brightly—he gave to others even when he had little himself, always uplifting and encouraging those around him with a kind word or comforting presence. He looked for the good in everyone he met and found beauty in all things, striving to be a good friend, brother, and son. His giving nature and encouraging heart left an indelible mark on all fortunate enough to know him.

Stephen’s faith was central in his life. Having accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior, he served as a member of Wrens Baptist Church, worshipping as part of the choir. Even though Stephen sometimes succumbed to his demons, he was assured of God’s saving grace through his relationship with Jesus. In the last months of his earthly life, Stephen focused on deepening his relationships, making amends, and helping others in whatever ways he could. His main focus was solely on God and His saving grace. He expressed gratitude to God for the precious time given to him and for the loving support of family and friends. Stephen was at peace, content with his journey and the legacy he would leave behind.

Outside of his profound love for God and family, Stephen’s appreciation for music, travel, and the ocean brought him immense joy. He had a special affection for Jamaica, his favorite destination, where he found peace sitting on the beach and watching sunsets. The beauty and serenity he experienced there mirrored the tranquility he desperately sought. Stephen was an avid lover of music in every genre and especially enjoyed attending performances by the Augusta Symphony. In his last days, gospels and Christian music eased him into his peaceful transition.

Stephen treasured his family dearly, aspiring in many ways to emulate his beloved father—a goal he achieved, even if he did not fully realize it himself. He is survived by his loving and devoted sister, April M. Standard; beloved nephew, Michael Standard; aunts and uncles, Bobby and Edit Mauney, Joanie M. Williford and Dwight, and Charles and Linda Arrington. He is now reunited with those who went before him: his mother, Carolyn Lee Arrington Mauney; father, Henry "Mickey" Michael Mauney; sister, Lisa Mauney; paternal grandparents, Annie Peebles Mauney and Charels “Fred” Mauney; maternal grandparents, Minnie Rowland Arrington and Gordon “Gardenia” Arrington; and aunt, Barbara Cheeks.

A memorial service to honor and remember Stephen Michael Mauney will be held at 2:30 PM Saturday afternoon, July 25, 2026, James Funeral Home with the Reverends Tony Branham and Russ Tollison officiating. The family will receive friends following the memorial service until 5:00PM.
