Ruth Adams

Wrens, GA  –              Ruth Adams, 99, entered into her eternal rest Wednesday morning, September 16, 2015 at Gibson Health and Rehab Center in Gibson. Funeral services will be held in the James Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00P.M. on Saturday, September 19, 2015 with Rev. Sean Heggood and Rev. Jack McCorkle officiating. Interment will follow in the Wrens Memorial Cemetery.

One of five children born to the late Cora Parker Adams and the late Alvin Hadden Adams, Ruth was a lifelong resident of Jefferson County. After graduating from Wrens High School, she attended Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville where she earned her BS in Elementary Education. She taught elementary school in Vidalia until 1958 when her father suffered a stroke, which precipitated her return home to manage the family farm. She continued her teaching career at Wrens Elementary School, retiring with 31 years of service in the teaching profession.  Ruth was a member of the Jefferson County Retired Teachers Association. A petite woman with an impish smile, a twinkle in her eyes and a feisty attitude, Ruth was very intellectual with a great sense of humor and quick wit. She loved the Adams’ home place and enjoyed many of her retirement years overseeing the farming of the land. Records show that she was baptized in June, 1928, faithfully loving and serving her Lord and Savior at Wrens Baptist Church.  She was always busy taking care of the family, the household, the farm and teaching but always found time to read—she especially loved reading her Bible.  Ruth dedicated her life to serving others—her family, her church family, her students and her community. Her unselfish, abiding love will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Ruth was also preceded in death by all of her siblings, Alvin Harvey Adams, Louise Adams McCarthy, Mary Frances Adams and Infant Boy Adams.  Survivors include two nieces, Judy Auernheimer and Janis Wilsterman, both of Phoenix, Arizona; a nephew, David “Rocky” Adams (Melody) of Tampa, Florida; several great nieces and nephews; and many cousins.  Serving as pallbearers will be Sidney Brown, Emory Clements, Trent Holley, Tommy Jones, John Murphy, Richard Prescott and Brian Whitaker.

The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to her beloved church, Wrens Baptist Church, PO Box 217, Wrens GA 30833.

The family will receive friends at James Funeral Home from 12:30-2:00 P.M. Saturday, September 19, 2015 prior to the services.
