Roy Theodore Chambers

December 19, 1940 — November 9, 2023

Bartow, GA

Roy Theodore Chambers, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully at his residence in Bartow on November 9, 2023. Services to celebrate his life will be held in his church home, Wadley Baptist Church, at 11:00AM Saturday morning, November 11, 2023 with Rev. David Brown officiating.  Interment will be at 2:00PM Sunday, November 12, 2023 in the Funston Cemetery mausoleum.

Born in Moultrie on December 19, 1940, to the late Theo Melton Chambers and the late John Wilburn Chambers, Roy grew up on the family farm where he developed a strong work ethic and a love for his community. He attended Moultrie Senior High School, showing his athleticism on their baseball team, and graduated with the class of 1958. Following his graduation, he embarked on further educational pursuits at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (ABAC) in Tifton. He later transferred to the University of Georgia in Athens, where he earned a Bachelor of Agricultural Science degree in 1962.

During his college years, Roy juggled academic commitments while working part-time at Gold Kist until its closure. After completing his degree, he dedicated himself to a full-time career at Colquitt EMC.  In 1981, Roy relocated to the Wadley/Bartow area where he joined Jefferson Energy Cooperative. He began working at their Louisville office before transitioning to the Wrens office. Roy poured his talents and dedication into his profession and served the organization diligently until his retirement.

Roy’s remarkable personality shone brightly wherever he went. He had an infectious love for life and was known for his wit and storytelling prowess. His jokes would light up any gathering, and he could effortlessly imbue a room with laughter. Family held a special place in Roy's heart, and he cherished every opportunity to reconnect with loved ones during family reunions. With his unwavering positive attitude and uplifting spirit, Roy brought joy to those around him.

In his leisure time, Roy pursued various hobbies that enriched his life. An active individual, he was an avid golfer and found solace on the golf course in Louisville until declining health made it challenging for him to participate further. Having grown up on a farm instilled in him a passion for gardening, and he found great satisfaction in tending to his vegetable garden. Sports also captivated Roy, and he avidly watched numerous televised events. He held a particular fondness for the Georgia Bulldawgs, the Atlanta Braves, and all golf tournaments.

While Roy accomplished much during his time on earth, it was his unwavering faith and commitment to serving his Lord and Savior that remained closest to his heart. Roy was an active member of Wadley Baptist Church, where he found spiritual guidance and strength. His devotion to his faith served as an inspiration to all who knew him.

Roy will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Almond Chambers; their children, Sonja Ruis (Kelvin), Kindra Tench, and Carroll Chambers; grandchildren, Alexis Glass (Josh), Zachary Brewer (Angelica), Evan Chambers, and Caroline Chambers; great grandchildren, Jeremiah Glass and Ayden Brewer; siblings, Brenda Grinner, Joe Chambers, Janna Crump (Phillip), Karen Kinsaul (Ronnie); nieces, nephews, other extended family, church family and friends.  He is also preceded in death by his siblings, Billy Chambers, Lewis Chambers, Lavon Chambers and Jack Chambers.

In this time of grief, let us remember the many joyous moments shared with Roy and celebrate a life well-lived. May we find solace in the memories he has left behind as we bid farewell to a remarkable man whose presence brought warmth and happiness into our lives.
