Richard "Marc" Williford

March 5, 1961 — November 19, 2018

Dearing, GA

Richard “Marc” Williford

Dearing, GA  –             After a long, hard-fought battle with lung cancer, Richard “Marc” Williford, 57, loving husband of 28 years to Kimberly Gay Williford, entered into his eternal rest Monday morning, November 19, 2018 at University Hospital in Augusta. Funeral services to celebrate his life will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday morning, November 23, 2018 in the James Funeral Home Chapel with his uncles, Jimmy Black and Rev. Don Black, officiating.  Interment will follow in the family plot at Jordan Chapel Cemetery in Edgehill.

One of three children born to the late Lonice Mae Black Williford Russell and the late Billie Frank Williford, Marc was a lifelong resident of Dearing, graduating from Thomson High School in 1978.  After working at various local businesses, Marc became a truck driver, driving for Howard Sheppard until his health declined. His driving buddies knew him by his CB handle, Country Boy.  He loved to play pool and was known as Little Willie at the game room. An outdoorsman, Marc loved to hunt, fish and shoot birds. He loved the simple, country life.  He enjoyed country music, especially Conway Twitty and Reba McIntyre. Growing up in the Church of God, Marc was a believer and had a deep faith. He tended to be quiet and shy until he got to know you and then you got to see his outgoing, jovial side. People will remember his smile, which remained no matter the situation he found himself in. Marc was considered to have a laid-back personality and hated conflict—he wanted everyone to be happy and to get along. A loving father, dedicated husband and loyal brother, Marc loved his family unconditionally.  Family gatherings for special occasions—birthdays, holidays, etc.—were his favorite times; he loved it when all of his family was together enjoying one another. His death has left a void no one can fill; but his love leaves us memories no one can steal.

Other survivors include his children, Christopher Marc Williford, Stephen Colby Williford (Kimberly) and Austen Grey Williford; sister, Iris W. Norman (Marvin); brother Billy N. Williford (Pat); three grandchildren, Hannah Elizabeth Williford, Liam Emerson Williford and Lucas Julian Williford; extended family—aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins—and friends.  Serving as pallbearers will be Kevin Chamlee, Chance Coulter, Freddie Gay, Jonathan Ogletree, Daniel Richardson, Britt Shedd and Dusty Williford.

The family will receive friends at James Funeral Home from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. Thursday evening, November 22, 2018.

I'm Free

Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free
I'm following the path God laid for me.
I took His hand when I heard him call;
I turned my back and left it all.
I could not stay another day,
To laugh, to love, to work or play.
Tasks left undone must stay that way;
I found that place at the close of the day.
If my parting has left a void,
Then fill it with remembered joy.
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss;
Ah yes, these things, I too will miss.
Be not burdened with times of sorrow
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.
My life's been full, I savored much;
Good friends, good times, a loved ones touch.
Perhaps my time seems all too brief;
Don't lengthen it now with undue grief.
Lift up your heart and share with me,
God wanted me now, He set me free.

WHEN I’M GONE

When I come to the end of my journey
And I travel my last weary mile,
Just forget, if you can, that I ever frowned
And only remember the smile.
Forget unkind words I have spoken;
Remember some good I have done.
Forget that I ever had heartache
And remember I’ve had loads of fun.
Forget that I’ve stumbled and blundered
And sometimes fell by the way.
Remember I have fought some hard battles
And won, ere the close of the day.
Then forget to grieve for my going,
I would not have you sad for a day,
But in summer just gather some flowers
And remember the place where I lay,
And come in the shade of evening
When the sun paints the sky in the west.
Stand for a few moments beside me
And remember only my best.
