Reginald Garland Irby, affectionately known as "Reggie," passed away unexpectedly at his home on Sunday, May 31, 2026. Born on November 26, 1947, Reggie was a lifelong resident of Glascock County, Georgia, where he left an indelible mark through his dedication to family, community, and a life richly lived.
A 1965 graduate of Glascock County High School, Reggie spent the summer after graduation working at the Stapleton Garment Company—an experience that led to meeting the love of his life. In the fall of 1965, he attended Brewton Parker College until the spring quarter of 1966, coming home each weekend to spend time with his sweetheart. Their love culminated in marriage in March 1966, embarking on a lifelong partnership grounded in love and devotion.
Reggie’s career path was marked by perseverance and diverse experiences. After marriage, he began selling insurance before dedicating over 25 years to Thiele Kaolin, retiring as Production Manager. His entrepreneurial spirit then flourished as he operated a bird farm specializing in emus and ostriches. Later, demonstrating a relentless work ethic and passion for adventure, he obtained his Commercial Driver’s License and worked as a long-haul truck driver. He delighted in sharing stories of his journeys across the country with his grandchildren, recounting the many remarkable places he had visited and the adventures he embraced along the road.
Known for his fiery yet tender nature, Reggie was often described as a “big, fierce teddy bear.” Stern when necessary but always with a soft, generous heart, he was a man full of wisdom who freely dispensed sound advice. His extensive life experiences made him seem knowledgeable about everything under the sun. Above all, Reggie was a devoted family man—his family was his greatest pride and joy, and he loved them beyond words. He found contentment and happiness in everyday moments, whether riding his motorcycle on day trips, hunting and fishing, boating and skiing at the lake, or simply enjoying family cookouts and fellowship.
A man of strong convictions, Reggie exemplified a steadfast belief that guided his life with integrity and grace. His strength as a believer brought comfort and hope to those around him.
Reginald leaves behind a loving and devoted wife, Priscilla Ann Beckworth Irby; his son, Dana F. Irby and wife Holly; and four cherished grandchildren: Bailey S. Dewey and husband Randy, Lorelei B. Irby, Jacob B. Irby and wife Casey, and Gracie I. Hadden and husband William. He was also a proud great-grandfather to seven wonderful great-grandchildren: Camden Harrison Dewey, Ryker McCoy Dewey, Makenzie- Adeline Irby, Marshall Brian Irby, Georgia Grace Irby, Lucas Vincent Hadden, and Brian Keith Hadden. Additionally, he is survived by his cousin, Bruce Culver, and other extended family and friends who hold his memory dear.
Reggie was preceded in death by his beloved son, Brian Vincent Irby; his parents, Gladys Usry Irby and Cecil Freeman Irby; and his aunt and uncle, Mary and Sam Culver.
Friends and family are invited to honor the life and legacy of Reginald Garland Irby at the following services: Visitation from 5:00PM--7:00PM Thursday evening, June 4, 2026, at James Funeral Home; the funeral service at 1:00PM Friday afternoon, June 5, 2026, in the James Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kyle Downs officiating with interment following in the family plot at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
