Peggy Jean Davis Williams

Avera, GA  – Peggy Jean Davis Williams, 79, loving wife to the late Clifford Douglas Williams, entered eternal rest Friday night, July 3, 2015 at University Hospital in Augusta.     Funeral services will be held at Waldens United Methodist Church at 11:00 A.M. Monday, July 6, 2015 with Rev. Tommy Anderson officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

One of nine children born to the late Emma Manning Davis and the late Joe Thomas Davis, Peggy was a born and raised in Avera and a lifelong resident of Jefferson County. She was a member of Waldens United Methodist Church since childhood where she faithfully served her Lord and Savior.  She was a homemaker, a beautician as well as a bus driver, retiring after 25+ years of service with Jefferson County Board of Education. She was a member of the Jefferson County School Bus Drivers Association and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary in Harlem.  Peggy loved to travel—she had been to New York, Washington DC, 4H Camps and many other places all on a school bus when she and her husband would drive and chaperone students to their various destinations. She also enjoyed fishing, going to yard sales, camping, watching game shows, working word search puzzles, playing card games and Bingo. She had a strong will and was very determined, but she also had a happy-go-lucky and fun-loving nature—she lived life to its fullest, always taking the time to laugh and enjoy her loved ones.  Above all else, Peggy loved her family and was most content in their presence.  Her unselfish, abiding love will be greatly missed.

Peggy is also preceded in death by her siblings, Reba Peebles, Mary McGahee, Dorothy Davis, Beulah Lamb, Broadus Davis and Bennett Davis. Survivors include her three children, Janice W. Snider (Algie), Paul D. Williams, and Wayne S. Williams (Renee); two siblings, Charlie E. Davis and Jo Dean Davis; five grandchildren, Matthew K. Snider, Daniel A. Snider, Wayne “Sam” Williams, Ashley Jones and Coley Jones; her canine "baby", Muffin; many nieces and nephews; and many friends.  Pallbearers will be Kenneth Channell, Jimmy Clark, Bryan Davis, Chris Davis, Buford Manning, Frank McGahee, Robert Rabun and Robert Williams.  Serving as honorary pallbearers will be members of the Harlem VFW Ladies Auxiliary and the Jefferson County School Bus Drivers.

The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to Waldens United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Patricia Kitchens, 1304 Hadden Pond Road, Avera, GA 30803.

The family will receive friends at James Funeral Home from 5:00-7:30 P.M. Sunday evening, July 5, 2015.

Legacy of Love

A wife, a mother, a grandma too,
This is the legacy we have from you.

You taught us love and how to fight,
You gave us strength, you gave us might.

A stronger person would be hard to find,
And in your heart, you were always kind.

You fought for us all in one way or another,
Not just as a wife, not just as a mother.

For all of us you gave your best,
Now the time has come for you to rest.

So go in peace, you’ve earned your sleep,
Your love in our hearts, we’ll eternally keep.
