Paul Ledger

Bartow, GA  –             Paul Ledger, 86, loving husband of 61 years to Sarah Ellen Dukes Ledger, entered into his eternal rest early Sunday morning, June 16, 2019, at Jefferson Hospital. Funeral services to celebrate his life will be held at Parker United Methodist Church at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday morning, June 18, 2019, with Elder Steve Flowers and Minister Maynard Peters officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Born in Andersonville, GA, Paul was the son of the late Pauline Aycock Ledger McNeely and the late Daniel Jackson Ledger.  He came to Jefferson County in his youth. Paul proudly served his country in the US Airforce during the Korean War. He began his professional life as a timber marker and insurance salesman. He then began to farm. Paul and Sarah raised their children on the row crop and hog farm near Bartow. In the latter part of his career, he served as the Building Inspector for Jefferson County.

Paul loved and served his community well, serving on the Jefferson County Board of Education for over twenty years, as well as serving on several organizations in the Ag Industry.  He always supported his children and their friends in their 4-H, FFA and athletic activities.  His passion was gardening and he will be remembered for the roses and flowers he grew, cut and delivered all over the county. He enjoyed sharing their beauty with others.  Paul knew Jesus as His Lord and Savior, serving Him as a member of Bethesda Primitive Baptist Church in Wadley.  He adored his family, loving them unconditionally.  A loving husband, devoted father, and loyal friend, Paul was a man of his word and was well-respected by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Paul was preceded in death by all of his siblings, John Dan Ledger, Aubrey Ledger, Ralph Ledger, Christine McGlamry, Martha Sparks, Mary Fincher, Barbara Cox and Polly Kendrick. Survivors include his wife, Sarah; his three children, Greg Ledger (Patricia), Kathy Ross (Keith) and Lonnie Ledger (Gail); four grandchildren, Amber Wright, Will Ross (Paige), Kaitlin Ledger and Jarrett Ledger; nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

The family will receive friends at the family home immediately after the funeral service on Tuesday, June 18, 2019.

The family would like to recognize special friends Tammy Barbour and Ellen Tarver, as well as the many healthcare professionals, who have served Paul in the last three years.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Paul’s honor may be made to the charity of your choice.
