Thomson, GA

Michelle Lee Norfolk Sanders, 40, born on August 19, 1985, in Augusta, Georgia, departed this world peacefully on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at Wellstar MCG Hospital in Augusta.

Michelle’s early life was marked by a courageous journey. At the age of 25, she experienced a serious motor vehicle accident that nearly took her life, but by the grace of God, she was spared. This incident left her with limited movement in her hands and legs, rendering her disabled. Despite the challenges she faced, including a routine surgery in March 2025 that left her health in decline, Michelle remained a shining beacon of positivity, uplifting those around her even during her times of suffering.

Michelle attended school in Burke County, then Jefferson County and Screven County High School. Although she left school before graduation to work in a nursing home as a housekeeper and home health aide, her most rewarding role was as a devoted homemaker, creating a loving and safe haven for her family.

Michelle had a vibrant personality characterized by her fun-loving and outgoing nature. She was known for her kindness, consideration, and her role as an encourager, always maintaining a positive outlook on life. Her interests included fishing, singing with her sisters, and immersing herself in country music, often attending concerts. Additionally, she had a talent for artistry, creating beautiful diamond art as well as engaging in vinyl and screen printing.

Michelle is survived by her devoted husband, James Douglas Sanders; daughters, Jasmine Sanders and Alyssa Sanders; parents, Julie Badger Parker, Robert L. Parker Jr., Aletha Glisson Wilson, and Emory Wilson; siblings, Jessica Ledbetter (Richard), Rosa Norfolk, Jon N. Norfolk Jr., Robin Parker (Josh Magoon), Amanda Bazemore, Robert L. Parker III (Whitney), and Leila Parker; her grandmother, Johnnie Allen; along with other extended family and friends who cherished her dearly.

She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Milton Brown; her father, Jon Michael "Mike" Norfolk; and her grandparents, James “Sonny” Allen, James and Rose Badger, and James Norfolk.

In honoring Michelle's memory, a Memorial Service will be held at 2:00PM Saturday afternoon, December 27, 2025, at James Funeral Home, followed by a visitation until 4:00 PM.
