Michael Eugene West, Sr.

Michael “Mike” Eugene West, 78, passed away peacefully Monday, April 6, 2026 in Louisville, while under hospice care.

Mike was born June 29, 1947 in Savannah to the late Wilbur Eugene West and Sarah Catherine “Kate” Perryman West. A 1965 graduate of Jenkins High School, Mike worked in the construction and maintenance business, retiring from the University of Georgia 4-H camp on Tybee Island in the mid-2000s. His real passion, however, was coaching little league sports, including football, baseball, and soccer. For decades he impacted many young boys and girls through the Rams little league organization in Savannah, which he helped establish in the early 1970s. In 1988, his Rams 14-year old team won Georgia’s state baseball title.

He is survived by two sons, Michael West, Jr. (Sheri) of Irmo, SC, and Chris West (Amy) of Savannah; four grandchildren, Hannah Perales West (Jesus), Madeline, Rachel, and Sam. He is also survived by his brother Tim West (Melony) and his niece Meredith West Frazer (Joshua). Mike was preceded in death by two brothers, Lawrence “Larry” Wilbur West and Gary Daniel “Danny” West.

The family is planning a small celebration of Mike’s life later in the spring. In the meantime, if you wish to celebrate Mike, please support your local little leagues, as well as your local hospice providers.
