Kate Haulbrook Gay

Wrens, GA  – Kate Haulbrook Gay, 84, loving wife of the late Judson J. “Bobby” Gay, entered into Heaven’s gates Saturday morning, September 21, 2013, from her residence.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM Tuesday, September 24, 2013 in the James Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverends Tom Kallioliski and Carl Geisik officiating.  Interment will follow in Wrens Memorial Cemetery.

One of seven born to the late Helen Lampp Haulbrook and Hoyt Ash Haulbrook Sr., Kate was a lifelong resident of Jefferson County, graduated from Wrens High School, attended Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville and Georgia Southern in Statesboro, married in 1948, had three children, and worked for and retired from First State Bank. She was very active in her church, Wrens Associate Reform Presbyterian Church, and the community and was a member of the Ira Cauldwell Social Circle, Keenagers and the Y.  She loved to dance with Bobby and enjoyed fishing, sewing, tending to her flowers, walking and visiting with her friends and family, especially her grandkids—she was lovingly referred to as “MaKate”. Kate had a loving demeanor, a warm heart and kind soul. She loved to laugh and always had a smile on her face. She exuded a simple, classic elegance and was the epitome of a southern lady.  This lady of grace will be greatly missed.

Kate was also preceded in death by her granddaughter, Juli J. Wiggins; and five siblings, Helen H. Williams, Elizabeth Haulbrook, Mabel Haulbrook, Robert Haulbrook and Frankie H. Jones. Those left to mourn her passing include her children, Eugene Gay (Elaine), Billy Gay (Lynn) and Kathy G. Wiggins (Robbie); her brother, Hoyt A. Haulbrook Jr.; five grandchildren, Joshua Gay (Elizabeth), Matthew Gay (Meredith), Bridget M. Gay, Dana C. Wiggins and Lisa D. Wiggins; two great grandchildren, Nora-Kate Gay and Maya Soleil Duncan; many nieces, nephews and friends. Serving as pallbearers will be Jimmy Brown, Hugh Fleming, Mike Jones, Ray Smith, Phillip Story Jr. and Jimmy Williams.

The family will receive friends at James Funeral Home Monday evening, September 23, 2013 from 6:00-8:00PM.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to her caregivers—Mary, Alice, Barbara and Ruby—for their loving care and support; and to Trinity Hospice, especially to Susan and Darry, for their outstanding care.

Memorial contributions may be made to Wrens ARP Church, 404 King St, Wrens, GA 30833.

Come With Me

The Lord saw you getting tired
And a cure was not to be,
So He put His arms around you
And whispered, “Come with me”.

With tearful eyes, we watched you suffer
And saw you fade away,
Although we loved you dearly,
We could not make you stay.

A golden heart stopped beating,
A beautiful smile at rest,
God broke our hearts to prove
He only takes the best.

It’s lonesome here without you—
We miss you so each day.
Our lives aren’t the same
Since you went away.

When days are sad and lonely,
And everything goes wrong,
We seem to hear you whisper,
“Cheer up and carry on.”

Each time we see your picture,
You seem to smile and say,
“Don’t cry—I’m in God’s keeping.
We’ll meet again someday.”
