Judy Ann Southerland Miller

Keysville, GA –          Judy Ann Southerland Miller, 78, loving wife of 50 years to Charles Edward Miller, Sr., passed away peacefully Tuesday, November 30, 2021, at Keysville Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center. Services to celebrate her life will be held in the James Funeral Home Chapel at 4:00 P.M. Saturday afternoon, December 4, 2021, with Rev. Jason Burton officiating. The family will receive friends after the service.

Because of the family’s respect and concern for public health and safety during this COVID-19 pandemic, the family requests that social distancing and other safety precautions be followed.  The wearing of face masks is strongly encouraged during this gathering.

Born in Athens AL to the late Dessie Mae Weir Southerland Sims and the late William H. Southerland, Judy got married and started a family at an early age. She then found herself to be a single mother working in the food service industry at East Limestone Hospital. Judy met the love of her life, Charles, marrying in 1971. Being family oriented, she was more than willing to make the move to Keysville in 1977 in order to help take care of her mother-in-law. She then continued her career in the food industry working at Peggy’s in Wrens, the Huddle House in Wrens and finally retiring from the Huddle House in Louisville in 2005. Judy was a great cook and loved feeding her family.  She was known for her sweet potato and pecan pies as well as making the absolutely best potato salad. Judy was high involved with Girl Scouts and was a troop leader when her daughter was a scout--an she knew how to sell those cookies!  She enjoyed reading romance novels, word search puzzles and adult coloring books. Having an outgoing personality, she never met a stranger and has been described as being kind, thoughtful, considerate and having a servant’s heart, which served her well in her career. Judy was also very independent and strong-willed, often to her detriment in that she tried to do everything herself without asking for help—she didn’t want to burden anyone.  She had a strong, absolute love for her husband and family and loved with all her heart. Judy will be missed greatly and her memories live on in the hearts of those privileged to know her.

Judy was also preceded in death by her siblings, Larry Sims and Kay Sims. Others left to cherish her memories include her children Monica L. Moore (David), Tim Griffin, Brad Griffin, Charles Miller Jr. (Veronika), Wayne Miller and Bobby G. Miller; grandchildren, Trinity Moore, Kyleigh Jones (Chris), Andrew Griffin, Melissa Miller, Christine Stanford, Ryan Stanford, Christina Miller, Theo “Bubba” Miller; brother, William Southerland (Dorothy Sue); sister-in-law, Connie Sims; other extended family, and friends.

The family expresses their heart-felt thanks to the Regency Hospice team and especially to the staff at Keysville Nursing Home & Rehabilitation Center for their loving, compassionate and professional care.
