Jimmie Terry Gay

September 20, 1937 — September 3, 2025

North Augusta, SC

Jimmie Terry Gay, 87, born on September 20, 1937, peacefully transitioned into her Heavenly home on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at National Healthcare of North Augusta. She was the beloved only child of the late Mary Duke Terry and the late Ernest Poole Terry.

Jimmie’s life was marked by her nurturing spirit and unwavering generosity. Throughout her career, she embraced various roles, including child care in her home, various odd jobs and secretarial job with school system. However, her most cherished vocation was being a homemaker, where she dedicated herself to creating a loving, supportive safe haven for her family. Jimmie's devotion was evident in the way she raised her children, instilling values of love and acceptance.

Growing up in the Wrens-Stapleton area, Jimmie attended school in Stapleton and graduated from Wrens High School. She furthered her education by attending business school, which laid the foundation for her diverse career. Jimmie married the love of her life July 20, 1958 and started their family, initially living in Avera before moving in 1960 to their forever home in North Augusta.

Known for her independent nature and unique sense of humor, Jimmie possessed a quick wit and a “deadpan”, dry sense of humor that kept everyone on their toes and often brought laughter to those around her. Her warm and accepting personality made her a beloved figure among family and friends. She was selfless, always ready to help anyone in need, and loved engaging in meaningful conversations with anyone willing to listen.

Artistry flourished in Jimmie’s life; she was exceptionally talented in sewing, needlepoint, crocheting, and painting. Gardening and spending time outdoors brought her joy, and she was known for her vigor and willingness to stay busy. Jimmie cherished camping trips, visits to the beach and mountains, and after her husband’s passing, she found pleasure in going on cruises and exploring Europe, Canada, and Alaska. Her fondness for family gatherings and baking was a hallmark of her home, where delicious moments were shared and cherished.

In her later years, Jimmie took great delight in reading and indulging in little luxuries like manicures and pedicures. Her love for life radiated, and she made a lasting impact on those who were lucky enough to be part of her journey.

Jimmie is preceded in death by her devoted husband, Roy Lenwood Gay. She leaves behind her loving children, Debbie O'Connor, Gary L. Gay (Shirley), and Jill G. Crawford (Wade). She was a proud grandmother to seven grandchildren: Ike Hurley, Jessica Hurley, Bridgett Hurley, Taylor Gay (Victoria), Tucker Gay, Blake Crawford (Meredith), and Bailey Crawford, along with five great-grandchildren: Jakobe Youngblood, Scelee Youngblood, Breelynn Crawford, Tripp Crawford, and Joanna Crawford. Jimmie is also remembered fondly by her extended family and friends.
