Jeanette Steed Davis

Louisville, GA  – Jeanette Steed Davis, 89, entered into rest Sunday afternoon, July 22, 2012 at Old Capitol Healthcare. Funeral services will be held at 3:00PM on Wednesday, July 25, 2012 in the James Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Larry Montgomery and Rev. Hardy Owens officiating. Interment will follow in the Westview Cemetery in Thomson GA.
One of five girls born to the late Ruby Tankersley Steed and the late Charles Vernon Steed, Jeanette was a resident of Jefferson County for most of her life. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Louisville and the Fidelis Sunday School Class. After 35 years of service, Jeanette retired as the General Merchandise Manager for Piggly Wiggly and then worked another 8 years for the Louisville Motor Lodge. She was always “on the go” and loved being with people. She also loved to dance but her passion was music. She was known for playing the organ—she would transport her organ to play for dances and at the area rest homes.  Jeanette’s greatest love was for her family whom she cherished dearly. Her gentle spirit and warm smile will be greatly missed.
Jeanette is also preceded in death by her sisters, Elizabeth S. Harper and Jan S. Long. Survivors include her four children, Jean D. Long (John) of Hephzibah, Carol D. Campbell (Brad), Glenn A. Davis (Peggy), and Beth D. McCoy (Jeff) of Harlem; eight grandchildren, Keri L. Hibbitts (Wesley), April Campbell, Julie C. Mobley (Lee), Jeff Davis, Amy D. Gay (Randy), Haylee McCoy, Hannah McCoy and Logan McCoy; six great grandchildren, Brandon Hibbitts, Tyler Hibbitts, Nathan Hibbitts, Maddison Mobley, Lux Gay and Baby Blakely Gay; three sisters, Thelma S. Pepper of Bossier City LA, Verna S. Kennedy of Greenwood SC, and Edith S. Pallbearers will be the men in her family—John Long, Brad Campbell, Jeff McCoy, Wesley Hibbitts, Lee Mobley, Jeff Davis, Randy Gay and Logan McCoy.
The family will receive friends at James Funeral Home prior to the funeral services from 1:30-3:00PM on Wednesday, July 25, 2012.

***************
I’m Free

Don’t grieve for me, for now I’m free.
I’m following the path God laid for me.
I took His hand when I heard Him call
I turned my back and left it all.

I could not stay another day
To laugh, to love, to work or play.
Tasks left undone must stay that way.
I found that place at the close of day.

If my passing has left a void
Then fill it with remembered joy.
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss—
Ah, yes, these things I too will miss.

Be not burdened with times of sorrow.
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.
My life’s been full, I savored much—
Good friends, good times, a loved one’s touch.

Perhaps my time seemed all too brief;
Don’t lengthen it now with undue grief.
Lift up your heart and share with me
God wanted me now, He set me free.
