James "Rusty" Edward Oglesby, II

March 13, 1976 — March 11, 2026

Warrenton, GA

James Edward Oglesby II, 49, affectionately known as Rusty, passed away unexpectedly from a heart attack just two days before what would have been his 50th birthday. Rusty departed this life at Wellstar MCG Hospital Wednesday evening, March 11, 2026, instantaneously entering his eternity in Heaven.

Born on March 13, 1976, Rusty's life was one marked by resilience and joy. He lived in several towns throughout Georgia including Swainsboro, Stapleton, Matthews, and Thomson, before settling in the Five-Points area of Gibson. He attended special needs classes at Gibson Consolidated School and later graduated from the Elgin School for the Handicap in South Carolina. Rusty’s early transition into adulthood came at the age of 20 when he moved in with his cousin, Carl, who became a significant figure in life. Eleven years ago, Carl began his long-haul trucking career and Rusty, being his devoted side kick, rode “shotgun”. Throughout the years, Rusty shared experiences across the United States with Carl, as they traveled through every state together, except Alaska and Hawaii. Their journey was a testament to their close bond and the joy Rusty found in the adventures they shared.

Rusty was known for his warmth and kindness, traits that endeared him to everyone he encountered. He was very well-mannered, loving and treated all individuals with respect, regardless of their background. His gregarious nature meant he never met a stranger, and he cherished his family deeply. His love for music was evident -- he could often be found listening to his favorite artists, Hank Williams Jr. and Johnny Paycheck, on his walkman. A loving and devoted child of God, Rusty attended Mt Moriah Church in Matthews, where his faith played an essential role in his daily life.

Rusty is survived by his loving family, including his mother and bonus father, Martha Cash Oglesby Guy and Cicero Guy; his father, James Edward Oglesby; and his sisters: Beverly Guy, Rhonda Braswell-Patterson (Jason), Cicerenna Errek (Tim), Sandy Metroz, and Paige Kitchens (Aaron). He is also survived by his cousin and caregiver, Carl Newsome, along with his special aunt and uncle, Terry and Jimmy Lawrence; in addition to other extended family and friends who will forever hold his memory in their hearts.

Because of the unexpected and sudden loss, the family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made directly to James Funeral Home, PO Box 588, Wrens GA 30833. You may also pay online at JamesFHWrens.com, “Resources” tab, then the “Make A Payment” tab, then “Submit” and follow prompts.

A graveside service to honor Rusty's life will take place at 2:00 PM Saturday afternoon, March 14, 2026, at Jefferson County Memorial Gardens.

Those who knew Rusty remember him for his unfailing kindness, his big heart, and the joy brought into the lives of those around him. His spirit will continue to live on in cherished memories of family and friends.
