James “Rhodie” William Rhodes
After a valiant battle with cancer and liver disease, James “Rhodie” William Rhodes, 51, peacefully left this earthly abode and entered into his eternal home in Heaven early Saturday morning, December 24, 2022. Services to celebrate his life will be held in the James Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, December 29, 2022 with Reverend Mason Davis officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Horeb Baptist Church Cemetery.
The only son born to Joan Parrish Rhodes and the late Billy Harvey Rhodes, Rhodie was a lifelong resident of Wrens. After graduating from Glascock County Consolidated School in 1989, he started working for EZGo/Textron as a temp employee on the manufacturing line. He worked his way up to ‘First Call Customer Representative, the position he held until the summer of 2021 when his health no longer permitted him to work. Plain and simple, Rhodie was a sports fanatic and could discuss any sport detailing all the stats. He absolutely loved football—a HUGE Dawg fan—and NASCAR—Earnhardt all the way! He is well known for his Georgia Bulldog and Earnhardt memorabilia collection. He loved to cook and was especially known for his grilling skills. The best day for him was having his house full of family and friends, with them enjoying good food, good company and a DAWG game or race on the TV. Rhodie could be counted on to give you his hones opinion—don’t ask unless you wanted to hear it straight! He loved his family and was especially proud of his nieces. A caregiver to his mother until his own health decline, Rhodie would do anything for her and spent many hours just being with her, helping out in anyway her could. Their relationship exemplified that special bond between a son and his mother. Most of all, Rhodie accepted Jesus as his personal Lord and Savior, solidifying his place in Heaven where he is now enjoying a new, pain-free body in perfect love, joy and peace.
Rhodie is also preceded in death by his niece, Mindy Milburn. In addition to his mother, others left to cherish his memories include his sisters, Vicky R. Gingery (Dale) and Julie R. Johnson (Phillip); three nieces, Megan Johnson, Mallory McBride (Josh) and Karli Johnson; great-nephew, Jaxon McBride; a “brother” friend, Ray Treadway; other extended family; and a host of friends. Serving as pallbearers will be Robert Bennett, Stacy Bill, Paul Dukes, Marcus Howard, Todd James and Reese Walden.
The family will receive friends at James Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00 P.M. Wednesday evening, December 28, 2022.
