Surrounded by his family, James Alvin Wren, 72, loving husband of 49 years to Jan Wilcher Wren, entered into his eternal rest Friday afternoon, June 9, 2023, at his residence. Funeral services to celebrate his life will be held at 3:00PM Tuesday afternoon, June 13, 2023, at Reedy Creek Baptist Church with Pastor John Jenkins officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Born in Louisville to the late Agnes Russell Wren McCorkle and the late Edward James Wren, James—better known as Jimmy—was a lifelong resident of Wrens and was a 1970 graduate of Wrens High School. Jimmy married the love of his life in 1973 and was so looking forward to celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary in November. He accepted Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of Reedy Creek Baptist Church since 1976, where he was a deacon. A dedicated employee, Jimmy retired from Thermo King after 39 years of service. He loved to fish and usually “out fished” those that he was in company with. A collector of many things, he was known for his collection of race cars, Hot Wheels, and John Deere stuff but his most loved and prized collection was his Coca-Cola bottles. Jimmy was well-respected by all who knew him, and his devotion, steadfastness and trustworthiness were exemplary. His love for his family was deeper than any words can describe—they brought him much joy. This quiet, gentle man with a loving, generous heart will be greatly missed by all who knew him but we have the hope and assurance that Jimmy is no longer suffering, that he has a new body, that he is worshipping his Savior and reaping his just rewards in his eternal home in Heaven.
Jimmy is also preceded in death by his brother, Hugh Edward Wren; and niece, Sabrina Wren Cameron. Others left to cherish his memories his daughter, Leigh Davis (Wayne, Jr); grandchildren, Raven Davis, Trey Davis and Dalton Powell; sisters, Dale Wren Wicker of Augusta, and Lynn Wren Carter; several nieces and nephews; other extended family, church family and many friends.
Pallbearers will be Stan Johnson, Robbie Prescott, Wayne Davis Sr., Mike Baldwin, Trey Davis and Dalton Powell. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be past and present Deacons of Reedy Creek Baptist Church.
The family respectfully requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions made to the Reedy Creek Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Pat Kitchens, 5298 Scarber Rd, Gibson GA 30810.
The family would like to thank Regency Hospice, Jill Posey and Patsy Solis for their ongoing love and support; and to Wayne Davis, Sr for the many times that he helped the family during Jimmy’s illness.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00PM Monday evening, June 12, 2023 at James Funeral Home.
