Gordon Columbus Perdue

Wrens, GA  – Gordon Columbus Perdue, 80, loving husband of 57 years to Elizabeth Tatrn Perdue, entered into rest Thursday morning, May 22, 2014 at his residence.  Funeral services will be held at 3:00PM Sunday, May 25, 2014 at Wrens Baptist Church with Rev. J. Scott McKinney officiating. Interment will follow in the Wrens Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

One of two children born to the late Ada Cooper Perdue and the late C. A. “Lum” Perdue, Gordon was a lifelong resident of Wrens, a member of the Neighborhood Watch, a faithful member of Wrens Baptist Church, a member of the Walter Jacobsen Sunday School Class and a greeter for worship service—a position at the church that he loved doing. He proudly served our country in the Army. Gordon retired with 30+ years of service as an electrician/plumber at Fort Gordon. He enjoyed “tinkering” on anything mechanical, working in his vegetable garden, listening to bluegrass music and socializing at Peggy’s. Gordon was a very gregarious man and loved people—if someone was there to listen, he always had a story to tell. He was a devoted husband, a great father and an incredible grandfather. He lived a Christian life and enjoyed every minute of it.

Other survivors include his children, Danielle R. Perdue, Jeffrey G. Perdue (Demarice) and Alice Ann Moore (Tim); a sister, Jayne Morales (Joseph) of Elijay; five grandchildren, Eric Perdue, Adam Perdue, Samantha Moore, Malana Jayne Moore and Tre Moore; and many friends.  Pallbearers will be Garry McCord, Emory Clements, Julian Kitchens, Jack Roberson, George Samples and Chris Sheppard. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Walter Jacobsen Sunday School Class.

The family respectfully requests that honorary memorials be made to Wrens Baptist Church, PO Box 217, Wrens  GA  30833.

The family will receive friends at James Funeral Home from 6:00 – 8:00PM Saturday evening, May 24, 2014.

They say memories are golden.
Well, maybe that is true.
I never wanted memories,
I only wanted you.

A million times I needed you,
A million times I cried.
If love alone could have saved you,
You never would have died.

In life I loved you dearly,
In death I love you still.
In my heart you hold a place
No one could ever fill.

If tears could build a stairway
And heartache make a lane,
I'd walk the path to Heaven
And bring you back again.

Our family chain is broken,
And nothing seems the same.
But as God calls us one by one,
The chain will link again.
