Gary Lee Bazemore

November 10, 1946 — June 9, 2026

Wrens, GA

Gary Lee Bazemore, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and cherished member of his community, passed away unexpectedly on June 9, 2026, while in rehabilitation at Keysville Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center. Born on November 10, 1946, Gary’s life was marked by dedication, hard work, and a deep commitment to family.

Born in Sylvania, Gary’s early years were shaped by a family move to Sardis where he grew up and graduated from Sardis-Girard-Alexander High School in 1965. Immediately following graduation, he pursued a path that would define his professional life, beginning as an apprentice pipe fitter and attending school at night to earn certification after completing a rigorous four-year program. His journey brought him to Wrens in 1967 in following the footsteps of his family. There, at the local Dairy Queen, he met Iris, the love of his life. The couple was married in August 1968, embarking on a lifetime of shared memories and building a family together.

Gary was a member of the Local 150 union and dedicated 35 years as a pipe fitter before retiring in 2000. His commitment to his work did not end there; he continued employment at Quick Set in Waynesboro until the plant’s closure. Embracing an active lifestyle, he then served as a school bus driver for the Jefferson County School System for a decade. A man of principle and dedication, Gary was also a Master Mason for 45 years with Hephzibah Lodge #412.

Known for his great sense of humor, reliability, and unwavering devotion, Gary was the epitome of a family man. He cherished his loved ones, providing not only financial support but the invaluable gift of his time and presence. He believed in order and punctuality, always arriving early, respectful of others’ time and needs. His considerate nature and strong work ethic were pillars in both his personal and professional life.

Gary’s passions extended beyond his work and family. An ardent craftsman, he was especially known for his woodworking, with a particular talent for making bowls. His love of the outdoors was evident in his enthusiasm for hunting, fishing, and bird watching. The river held a special place in his heart—a sanctuary where happiness was found even without a fishing rod in hand. Above all, being with family was his greatest joy.

He is survived by his loving wife, Iris Prescott Bazemore; son Daniel Bazemore and his wife Misty; daughter-in-law, Sharon Bazemore; nine grandchildren—Dolly Schmidt (Cheyenne), Adam Bazemore (Danielle), Leland Bazemore (Courtney), Lexie Bazemore, Bailey McCorkle, Avery McCorkle, Logan McCorkle, Gage Bazemore (Faith), and Kaylee Powers (Willie); and seven great-grandchildren Jason Schmidt, Madison Schmidt, Jayden Bazemore, Olivia Bazemore, Ryleigh Bazemore, Liam Byrd, and Will Powers Jr. Gary is also survived by his two brothers, Glenn H. Bazemore (Carol) and Roger D. Bazemore (Cheryl), along with nieces, nephews, extended family, and a multitude of friends who were touched by his kindness and spirit.

Gary was preceded in death by his beloved son, Jeffery Bazemore, and his parents, Lexie Black Bazemore and Lee Thomas Bazemore.

Family, friends, and all who knew Gary are invited to honor his memory during a visitation Saturday afternoon, June 13, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at James Funeral Home. A memorial service will immediately follow with the Reverends Roy White and Michael Thigpen officiating.

The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the staff of Keysville Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center for their excellent, compassionate, loving and professional care.

Gary Lee Bazemore’s legacy is one of steadfast love, unyielding dedication, and an enduring presence that will remain in the hearts of those who had the privilege to know him. In remembering him, we honor a life lived with purpose, integrity, and immeasurable warmth.
