Evelyn Cottingham Knoll

Wrens, GA  – Evelyn Virginia Cottingham Knoll, 89, loving wife of the late Alvin Leroy Knoll Sr.,  entered eternal rest Tuesday afternoon, July 14, 2015 at Gibson Health & Rehab Center in Gibson GA.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM Saturday, July 18, 2015 in the Summersett Funeral Home Chapel in Salisbury NC. Interment will follow in the Rowan Memorial Park Cemetery.  A Remembrance Service will be held at 4:00PM on Saturday, August 1, 2015 at Wrens United Methodist Church.

Born to the late Lila Bowen Cottingham and the late Lonnie Bracy Cottingham, Evelyn lived in Salisbury until marrying the love of her life and moving to Florida, where she lived for 50 years before moving to Wrens to be with her son. Evelyn was very active and enjoyed fishing, going out on the boat, traveling in the camper, sewing, crocheting and playing cards. She was fun-loving—she loved to laugh and enjoy life. Taking care of her family was Evelyn’s top priority. She was a great homemaker and cook. Above all else, Evelyn loved her family, especially her grandchildren, and was most content in their presence.  Her unselfish, abiding love will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Evelyn is also preceded in death by her sisters, Louise Cox and Zula Mae Haynes. Survivors include her children, Alvin “Butch” L. Knoll Jr. (Brenda) and Carol Knoll Short (Kermit); a sister, Clara Harwood; three grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at Summerset Funeral Home prior to the service from 1:00-2:00 P.M. Saturday afternoon, July 18, 2015.

Legacy of Love

A wife, a mother, a grandma too,
This is the legacy we have from you.

You taught us love and how to fight,
You gave us strength, you gave us might.

A stronger person would be hard to find,
And in your heart, you were always kind.

You fought for us all in one way or another,
Not just as a wife, not just as a mother.

For all of us you gave your best,
Now the time has come for you to rest.

So go in peace, you’ve earned your sleep,
Your love in our hearts, we’ll eternally keep.
