Elizabeth "Libby" Sermons George

Elizabeth "Libby" Sermons George, born on January 9, 1949, peacefully entered into her eternal home Wednesday evening, August 5, 2026, where her faith became reality. Libby’s life was a tapestry of love, faith, dedication, and kindness—a legacy cherished by all who had the privilege to know her.

Growing up in the small town of Osteen, Florida, Libby developed the strong values and warm vitality that would define her character throughout her life. She graduated from DeLand High School in 1968, and it was during these formative years that she began the lifelong friendships which would later shape her journey.

Her story with Sterling Logan George is one of enduring love. Having known Logan for many years, their friendship blossomed into a whirlwind romance. They married in 1971 in Atlanta, and after a year there, they made their home in Wrens, celebrating their first anniversary by embarking on a new life together. Their partnership was the foundation of a loving family and a happy home.

Libby dedicated herself to her career with diligence and grace. She worked at several local establishments, including Dairy Queen, First State Bank, and served as a teacher's aide at Wrens Elementary. Her commitment and attention to detail ultimately led her to J M Huber, where she served in different roles, retiring after 28 years of service as Administrative Assistant. Yet, as accomplished as she was in her professional life, Libby often expressed that her most fulfilling role by far was that of wife, mother, and homemaker. Her love for her family knew no bounds, and she cared for them with unwavering devotion.

Libby’s talents and interests were many. She was known for her beautiful quilts—a gift she shared generously with loved ones and friends. Sewing, cross-stitch, and quilting brought her joy, and her handiwork became treasured heirlooms. She was also a wonderful cook and baker—a skill she learned from humble beginnings after receiving a cherished cookbook from her loving husband. What began as an act of love grew into a lifelong passion, as she collected cookbooks and developed her own special recipes—she found great pleasure in cooking and baking for family and friends.

Her faith was central to her life. Libby accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior and was a devoted member of Wrens Baptist Church since 1972, playing an instrumental role in starting a Young Married Sunday School Class. Alongside her husband, she also attended Sweetwater Baptist Church. She was known in her church family as reliable and steadfast, always willing to offer a helping hand, and could be counted on to do whatever she could to help.

Friends and family remember Libby as sweet, caring, and kind, continually putting the needs of others before her own. She was a devoted caregiver, especially to her mother-in-law, going home during lunch breaks to make sure she received her medical treatments. Her warmth and loving spirit extended beyond her immediate family, embracing those around her and touching countless lives through quiet acts of service, her ready laugh, and zest for life.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Sterling “Logan” George; her children, Ben George and his wife Jennifer, and Lorinda Brown and her husband Roderick; her grandchildren, Casey Tabor (Laura), Gabe George, Eli George, Meileigh George, and Tyler Brown; great-grandchildren, Tripp Tabor and Tyler Tabor; her sisters, Kathy Sermons, June Denmark (Ricky), Inez Trathel (Murph), and Renee Sermons; numerous nieces, nephews, other extended family, church family and friends.

Libby is reunited in her heavenly home with her dear son, John Tabor; her parents, Annie Lee Cohen Sermons and Thomas Hardeman "Hardy" Sermons; as well as three brothers and four sisters who preceded her in passing.

A visitation will be held at James Funeral Home from 10:00AM-11:30AM Saturday morning, August 8, 2026, with the funeral service following in the James Funeral Home Chapel at 11:30AM, officiated by Rev. Tony Branham. After the funeral service, interment will be at Wrens Memorial Gardens. Honored to serve as her pallbearers include her son, Ben; son-in-law, Roderick; grandsons, Gabe, Eli and Tyler; as well as Eric Clark, a family friend.

The family suggests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Wrens Baptist Church. Libby's life was one marked by faith, love, and compassion. She leaves behind a legacy that will continue to inspire and uplift those who loved her most. While she will be deeply missed, her memory will live on in the hearts and lives of her family, friends, and all who were blessed to know her.
