Edith Laverne Anderson Johnson

Hephzibah, GA  – Edith Laverne Anderson Johnson, 64, loving wife of 40 years to the late John Edward Johnson Jr, entered into rest Saturday morning, March 8, 2014 at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at Hopeful Baptist Church in Blythe with Rev. Greg Glover officiating. She will lie-in-state one hour prior to services. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Born to the late Mary Will Brandon Anderson and the late John Willis Anderson Sr., Edith lived all her life in this area and co-owned and operated Johnson Awning Company for 25 years. She was an active member of Hopeful Baptist Church where she faithfully served her Lord as a member of the choir and the Ladies Sunday School Class. She loved to travel, especially going on cruises, and to “ride”, preferably on her motorcycle, boat, or horse, as well as shopping for the grandkids. She liked being outdoors in nature and enjoyed planting and tending to her flowers, which she would name.  Edith had an adventuresome spirit and was a child at heart, always enjoying every moment of life, laughing and having fun despite any of her physical maladies. Most of all, Edith was devoted to her family, loving and cherishing them above all else.

She is also preceded in death by four brothers, Carl T. Anderson Sr., Arthur Wayne Anderson, David Lee Anderson Sr., and Raymond Roy Anderson. Survivors include her six children, David Gerald Hutto Jr. (April), John Ed Johnson III, Rhonda Holshouser (Dennis), Rebecca Rogers (Bryan), Delores Brown (David), and Sabrina Crosby (Michael); two siblings, John Willis Anderson Jr. and Mary Yvonne Wimberly, both of Augusta; ten grandchildren, Kristin Sanders (J.D.), Matthew Holshouser, Joseph Holshouser, Johnnie Sanchez, Colby Sanchez, Brandon Hutto, Nathan Hutto, Megan Rogers, Allison Rogers, and  Kaleigh Crosby; one  great granddaughter, Aubrey Elizabeth Sanders; many nieces, nephews and friends.  Pallbearers will be Carl T. Anderson Jr., Thomas David Brown Jr, Michael Crosby, Dennis M. Holshouser, Matthew Holshouser, David Gerald Hutto Jr, John Ed Johnson III and J. D. Sanders.

The family will receive friends at James Funeral Home from 6:00-9:00PM Monday, March 10, 2014.

Legacy of Love

A wife, a mother, a grandma too,
This is the legacy we have from you.

You taught us love and how to fight;
You gave us strength, you gave us might.

A stronger person would be hard to find,
And in your heart, you were always kind.

You fought for us all in one way or another;
Not just as a wife, not just as a mother.

For all of us you gave your best,
Now the time has come for you to rest.

So go in peace, you’ve earned your sleep.
Your love in our hearts, we’ll eternally keep.

For by grace ye are saved through faith, and that not
of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest any
man should boast.          Ephesians 2: 8-9 (KJV)
