Dorothy “Dot” Denny Barrow
Wrens, GA – Dorothy Denny Barrow, 95, loving wife to the late Hubert Pilcher Barrow, entered into her eternal rest Saturday afternoon, October 20, 2018 at PruittHealth-Old Capitol in Louisville. Funeral services to celebrate her life will be held at 3:00 P.M. Thursday afternoon, October 25, 2018 in the James Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Chad Watkins officiating. Interment will follow in the Ways Baptist Church Cemetery.
The only child born to the late Georgia Chappelear Denny and the late Julian Pierce Denny, Dot was a lifelong resident of Wrens. After graduating from Wrens High School, she attended Andrew College. She married the love of her life at the age of 19; and worked at local establishments in Wrens and Louisville—Fleming Drug Company, Dr. Pilcher’s office in Wrens, etc.—before starting a 35-year career as a case worked for the Georgia Department of Family and Children Services (DFCS) in Louisville. As a young girl, she faithfully served her Lord and Savior in the fellowship of Wrens United Methodist Church and was their oldest living member. Dot was also an active member of the John Franklin Wren Chapter of NSDAR. When her health declined five years ago, she became a resident of the Home Place in Louisville, moving to Old Capitol a month ago after a fall. Dot was a very sociable person and enjoyed her outings at Peggy’s in Wrens, talking with old friends and meeting new friends. She loved genealogy and history, especially the history of Jefferson County, and always wanted to know about people and their lineage. Dot was a sincere, caring lady who kept the old Southern ways—well-dressed and mannerly in her approach. She adored her family and was most content in their presence. This Godly woman will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Those left to cherish her memories include her four children, Anne Barrow English, Denny Barrow (Fran), Tommy Barrow and Mary Carter Barrow-Betts; eight grandchildren, Julie Rahn, Jay Martin (Robin), Jane Martin, Jessica Barrow, Susanne Clement (Court), Jimmy Martin, Bert Barrow and Gabe Barrow; nine great grandchildren, Joey Martin, James Martin, Noah Martin, English Coit, Jade Coit, Samuel Furcron, Quinn Clement, Piper Clement, and Tess Clement; one great-great granddaughter, Kenzlie; lifelong friend, "Sissy" Frances Walden Dnistran; her church family and many friends. Pallbearers will be Bert Barrow, Gabe Barrow, Jay Martin, Jimmy Martin, Tommy New and Ronnie Rogers. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the John Franklin Wren Chapter DAR and John Jones.
The family will receive friends at James Funeral Home Thursday afternoon, October 25, 2018 from 1:00-3:00 P.M. prior to the services.
Memorial contributions may be made to Wrens UMC, 202 Russell Street, Wrens, GA 30833 or to The John Franklin Wren Chapter—Howard Manor Fund, c/o Beth Stone Usry, 107 East Quaker Rd, Wrens, GA 30833.
The family sends heart-felt thanks to Dr. James M. Ford who showed Dot and the family compassion and care beyond the norm. Thank you to Dr. Jim Pilcher for his care in the last year of her life.
