It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Barbara Denise McDonald Spivey, who peacefully entered into her eternity Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at her home. Denise was born on April 5, 1960, and her life was marked by a quiet strength, deep care for her family, and an appreciation for life’s simple pleasures.
Denise grew up in Stapleton and was a 1983 graduate of Wrens High School. Shortly after graduation, on June 10th, she married her beloved husband, Jimmy, with whom she shared a lifetime of love and commitment. She worked alongside her parents and brother at Emergency Equipment Service, a family-owned business in Augusta for many years before devoting her time to be a stay-at-home mom, homemaker, and devoted caregiver to her husband, reflecting her steadfast belief that family was her first priority.
A down-to-earth and strong-willed woman, Denise was known for her quiet nature and caring spirit. As a young girl, she attended Reedy Creek Baptist Church, grounding her life in values that carried through the years. She treasured family gatherings, particularly those with her husband’s large extended family, cherishing moments of connection and fellowship.
Denise enjoyed the outdoors and could often be seen tending to her lawn with pride. She liked maintaining a clean and welcoming home, creating a warm environment for those she loved. Outings to her favorite restaurants, Golden Corral and Waffle House, were among her simple delights and brought her joy.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Jimmy Cecil Spivey; her daughter, Sheri Spivey; and grandson, Ricardo Simpkins. Denise also leaves behind her brothers, Brian McDonald and Wayne McDonald (Peggy), along with in-laws, nieces, nephews, and many other extended family members and friends who will remember her fondly.
Denise was preceded in death by her parents, Marlene Virginia Hadden McDonald and William “Mac” Thurmond McDonald, whose legacy she honored through her life.
A visitation to celebrate Denise’s life will be held from 5:00PM to 7:00PM Friday, June 19, 2026, at James Funeral Home. Friends and family are invited to gather and share memories of a remarkable woman whose humble strength and loving nature left an indelible mark on all who knew her.
