Deanie Mae Pate Sellers

Hephzibah, GA  –       Deanie Mae Pate Sellers, 74, entered into her eternal rest Sunday evening, August 9, 2015 at her residence. A Celebration of Life service will be held in the Hephzibah United Methodist Church Thursday evening, August 13, 2015 at 7:00P.M. with Pastor Gale L. Seibert officiating.

The younger of two daughters born to the late Eva Lillian Young Pate and the late Thomas Green Pate, Deanie was a native of Stapleton.  After graduating from Wrens High School in 1959, she married and moved to Hephzibah, where she has made her home for the last 56 years. For over 50 years, she faithfully served her Lord and Savior as a member of Hephzibah United Methodist Church. While raising her children, she worked for a couple of convenience stores, after which she became a Certified Nursing Assistant, retiring from Gracewood State School and Hospital with over 30 years of service. Deanie believed in hard work—she was always active and busy doing something.  She enjoyed traveling—especially going on vacation with her family every Thanksgiving, Christmas and summer—going to Braves games and going out to eat.  Her favorite place to eat was Peggy’s (formerly owned by Peggy Hood Hadden, her classmate) in Wrens, where she ate at least once per week and enjoyed being “spoiled” by Diane Gaines, who always took real good care of Deanie, her favorite patron. Deanie was an animal lover—feeding and watching birds, having and caring for dogs and three crazy cats.  She had a feisty, determined attitude and was filled with loads of spunk. Her sense of “right” and “fairness” was paramount and would always stand up for her beliefs. Deanie had an absolute love for her family, especially her grandchildren, and was most content in their presence.  Her lively spirit will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Deanie is also preceded in death by her daughter, Jackie Sellers; spouse, Horace Sellers, Jr.; and sister, Venera Green. Survivors include her children, Donna D. Sellers, Nancy A. Smith (Danny) and Christopher N. Sellers (Ayako); five grandchildren, Leigh Smith, Benjamin Smith, William Sellers, Eric Sellers and Michael Sellers; her church family; and many friends.          The family will receive friends at Hephzibah United Methodist Church one hour prior to the services—from 6:00-7:00PM—Thursday evening, August 13, 2015.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorial contributions be made to Hephzibah United Methodist Church, 4431 Brothersville Road, Hephzibah GA  30815 or to Salvation Army, 969 Tebeau Street, Waycross GA  31501.

Legacy of Love

A wife, a mother, a grandma too,
This is the legacy we have from you.
You taught us love and how to fight,
You gave us strength, you gave us might.
A stronger person would be hard to find,
And in your heart, you were always kind.
You fought for us all in one way or another,
Not just as a wife not just as a mother.
For all of us you gave your best,
Now the time has come for you to rest.
So go in peace, you've earned your sleep,
Your love in our hearts, we'll eternally keep.
