David “Wayne” Howell
Matthews, GA – David “Wayne” Howell, 59, loving husband of 17 years to Emily Elaine McTier Howell, entered into his eternal rest Thursday night, January 16, 2020 at his residence. Services to celebrate his life will be held in the James Funeral Home Chapel at 4:00 P.M., Wednesday afternoon, January 22, 2020 with Rev. Ed Chance officiating.
One of six children born to Mary Helen Tilton Howell and the late Dewey Edward Howell Sr., Wayne grew up in the Thomson-Dearing area. He quit school to work in construction, starting in masonry and then later roofing with his brother. David worked hard and enjoyed construction work until his health decline ten years ago. He loved being outdoors—fishing, riding his tractor, and cutting grass, whether or not it needed. A determined, strong-willed man, he was a devoted family man and loyal friend. David loved being with his family, especially his granddaughter who stole his heart.
David is also preceded in death by his two brothers, Dewey “Slugger” Howell Jr. and Commodore “Buck” Howell Sr. Other survivors include his children, John Howell, Dewey “Jack” Howell III (Sabrina) and Chris Howell; three siblings, Penny Chaney (Robert), James Howell (Nicky) and Victor Howell; his granddaughter—his heart, Christina Howell; nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family will receive friends prior to the services at James Funeral Home from 2:00 – 4:00 P.M. Wednesday afternoon, January 22, 2020.
