Claude "Collins" Walden

March 13, 1951 — July 26, 2023

Wrens, GA

Claude “Collins” Walden, 72, loving husband to the late Donna Rhodes Walden, entered into his eternity Wednesday morning, July 26, 2023 at Doctors Hospital in Augusta.  The family will receive friends at James Funeral Home from 10:00 – 11:30AM, Saturday morning, July 29, 2023.  A private service officiated by Chaplain Wade Sosebee will be held afterwards with interment following in the Wrens Memorial Cemetery

One of three sons born to the late Elise Collins Walden and the late James Fares Walden, Collins grew up in Wrens, graduating from Wrens High School in 1969 after which he obtained his Bachelor of Science degree at Georgia Southern College.  He worked for the Jefferson County Department of Family and Children Services for several years, after which he retired from the Georgia Department of Corrections as a state probation officer.  Collins was musically talented—he played the guitar and sang as a member of three bands—Signa 7, Backroads and, most recently, High Lonesome. He was also a long-standing member of the Gibson Masonic Lodge # 257 and was a past member of the Georgia Probation Association.  An avid sports fan, Collins enjoyed watching sports on TV and was a huge GA Tech fan—GO JACKETS!  His favorite pastime and greatest joy was watching his grandchildren in their sports endeavors.   Having a laid-back, go-with-the-flow attitude, he was congenial and enjoyed his many life-long friendships.  Collins had a deep, abiding love for his family and friends that words cannot fully describe, and was truly grateful and appreciative for their love and many kindnesses shown to him.

Collins is also preceded in death by his brother, Jim Walden. Those left to cherish his memories include his sons, Reese C. Walden (Jackie) and Bret Walden; step-son, Walden Hudson; three grandchildren, Payne Walden, Carter Walden and Bristol Walden; brother, John Walden (Carey); nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends.

The family strongly suggests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his honor be made to Silver Run Baptist Church, 5406 GA Hwy 221 SE, Harlem GA 30814, earmarked for the Building Fund.

The family also extends their heartfelt gratitude and thanks to all the staff at Doctors Hospital who were involved in the loving, compassionate and professional care given to Collins.
